The Border Rumors Are True!

BajaGeoff - 10-14-2014 at 10:18 AM

I took some friends down to Rosarito yesterday for the day.....gave them surf lessons and then had dinner at Splash. We hit the regular line (my friends did not have SENTRI) just after 9PM last night and there were about a dozen cars ahead of us in line. Total crossing time: 14 minutes! :o:o:o

woody with a view - 10-14-2014 at 10:47 AM

WTF?

that is very good news!

BooJumMan - 10-14-2014 at 10:55 AM

Dang! Surf lessons at Rosarito during a pumping NW swell?! Hoping you didn't take them outside ;)

DENNIS - 10-14-2014 at 10:56 AM

Maybe this will draw some of the Otay traffic back over to SY.

Anyway...I take back some of the nasty thoughts I've had about CBP in the past, but I'll keep them handy, just in case.

BajaGeoff - 10-14-2014 at 11:28 AM

Just pushed them into the whitewash on the inside BooJumMan! They had a blast and all three were standing up and riding waves. Water is still unbelievably warm too....no wetsuit needed.

woody with a view - 10-14-2014 at 12:42 PM

T minus 2 days and a wakeup!

the area that shant be named.....

edit: I'm taking a wetsuit, just in case! sea surface temps are saying high 70's which is CRAZY!

bajaspuds - 10-14-2014 at 12:50 PM

Thanks for the border update. Worked out to just over a minute per car ...

Maron - 10-14-2014 at 02:41 PM

It is nice when a rumor turns out to be true.

thanks for the info

BajaGeoff - 10-14-2014 at 04:36 PM

Excellent Woody...hope you get some great surf!

I don't think I have ever seen the water this warm for such a long period of time. I haven't worn a wetsuit in Baja for the last couple months....amazing!

Have a great trip!

CBP Image (IMHO)

Water here in San Clemente 72, a San Diego fishing boat
reported 80 at San Martin Isle

theotherone - 10-25-2014 at 01:31 PM

I just came back last night (10/24/2014) over the San Ysidro Port of Entry at 7:30PM. The total crossing time took me 25 minutes in the Ready Lane!!

Gasoline on the other hand is a rip-off in Tijuana, good thing I filled my tank at a Costco in San Diego County before crossing into Mexico.

The liter price is in a small window on the pump. Did you happen to get the price? I'm wondering if there's a big difference from Ensenada.

Hook - 10-25-2014 at 02:30 PM

Dennis, while it may be slightly cheaper in Ensenada, Mex gas is now a total rip-off.

There are stations in AZ and NM selling unleaded in the 2.80s now. Diesel around 3.30.

Last time I checked, Magna was somewhere between 3.50-4.00 gallon.

chuckie - 10-25-2014 at 02:41 PM

Well, it is what it is..If you are in Mulege it's a long way to drive to get gas..If it's something you cant deal with, stay in the USA...On line whining wont bring the price down....

theotherone - 10-25-2014 at 02:45 PM

The price of a liter (Magna - Green) 87 octane was about $13.13 MXN. yesterday in Tijuana. Therefore it would generally cost, more or less, about $3.66 per gallon in Tijuana.

The price of a gallon of 87 octane at a Costco in San Diego County was about $3.05.

woody with a view - 10-25-2014 at 07:50 PM

just sat for 25 minutes at 7:15pm. one guy per regular lanes!

dasubergeek - 10-25-2014 at 09:32 PM

Gasoline in Tijuana is currently 12.40$ per litre, and Gasmart's tipo de cambio is 13.40, so figure it's right on $3.50 per US gallon for regular (Magna). Diesel is 13.72$ per litre, so $3.88 per US gallon.

It's more expensive in Ensenada (13.13$ for gas), but cheaper in SLRC (10.92$, or $3.08/gal).

coolhand - 10-25-2014 at 11:28 PM

Yes, SST temps are way up!!!!

Santiago - 10-26-2014 at 07:38 AM

I did the SY NB last Saturday about 2:00 in the afternoon; made some rookie errors:
kept peeling left and should of staid right (ready lanes are right). got into the far left lane which was a mistake; there is another lane that merges from the left that must feed from some sort of border inspection on the Mexican side. Every 10 minutes or so a SAT truck would pull up with a half dozen cars behind it and allow them to merge into this lane. Took about 90 minutes to cross and I'm guessing everyone else was crossing in under 45 minutes or less.
SWMBO kept up a running play-by-play on my lane decision-making skills.

Fatboy - 10-29-2014 at 07:49 AM

Why the fast times crossing? Something change recently?

Last crossing was San Luis Christmas eve day of 2012 and waited over 3 hours, was sent to secondary and then was told to go back into mexico and wash the jeep and try again!

Second time in line that day was over 4 hours.

David K - 10-29-2014 at 08:20 AM

Yes, was on the news a while back... changes at San Ysidro to speed things up... opening more gates.

woody with a view - 10-29-2014 at 08:24 AM

last Saturday was 25 minutes at 7pm with only one guy at every lane.

nbacc - 10-29-2014 at 08:58 AM

Mexicali East 15 min (funny...ready lane was longer) general. Tuesday morn around 8

Ditto for going into Canada where the current price in Alberta is $1.69 Canadian per liter = $4.42/US gal vs $2.85 in Shelby, MT.

Don't bet on it. Keeping your mouth shut and head in the sand won't get anywhere for sure.

Bob,
$1.16/ L in Kamloops today ...not sure why Alberta is so high

apple - 10-29-2014 at 05:16 PM

I waited about 70 minutes at San Ysidro this past Sunday, starting at noon.
We ended up in secondary because my gf bought some potatoes and a pomegranate , but that only took an extra 30 minutes!

70 minutes is about 1/4th the time it used to take. :bounce:
