I should add a word about those giant Baja cacti, Pachycereus pringlei (Cardon). They are so named because the lower part of the trunk looks like an elephant leg. (Pachy like "Pachyderm.") Learned this from my Baja travel partner, a biologist and conservationist, who helps me see things through new eyes!

Wonderful! Tinaja de Yubay was a major water source along El Camino Real...

It is about a half mile up a little canyon from the Royal Road between San Borja and Calamajué/ Santa María.
