So Hughes is triple the d/l speed but much slower up. Interesting. You are on the 10 gig plan with Exede, I wonder if the Exede Liberty plan would be better than Hughes after being Fapped?

Russ - 4-16-2015 at 07:13 AM

I'm getting around faster with Hughes now. I'll see how I do with my next 30day installment before I try to upgrade. I upgraded some large MAC stuff early on Excede. Stuff I could have done after midnight. Also watched a lot of youtube. It's just so easy when you have fast service. I'll do some more speed tests and see if the upload speeds remain slow.

Russ - 4-16-2015 at 07:22 AM

OK, I switched back to Excede and here's the speed results. Quite a bit better if the speed holds up.

That looks good!!

I meant, that's a lot faster than Hughes when you exceed their allotted GB's and are THROTTLED. I had Hughes for 7 years, if I could find their main office and executive team, I would be in jail for murder; the full blown, pre-meditated kind.

Hughes not only throttled you, but they let you believe your speed was faster for the first month by allowing speeds that are 4x faster, then on the 31st day when your "one month free trial" is over, speeds are throttled back by 75%. They are crooks of the worst kind.

Thanks Tim ... SF 15 + ... I needed that :lol::lol:

Good numbers Russ ... not bad at all

For some, not having a decent internet connection ... is ___________ :biggrin:

I just did an Ookla speed test on my ATT service here in San Diego, I have the slowest ATT offers and only pay $30 a month. It tested at 3.86mbps down and 1.48mpbs up, so Exede blows that away. In Baja I have used Starband for 14 years now and was used to that speed so now when I get Exede I'll really be amazed.

larryC - 4-16-2015 at 10:50 AM

It is about equivalent to an unfapped Starband SE 500 service like yours.

So did you upgrade Russ?

Russ - 4-16-2015 at 01:36 PM

Nope, that last speed test is after I went thru the 10GB and it's suppose to be slow now.

Alm - 4-16-2015 at 03:03 PM

How far that Exede extends into Baja Norte right now?

Russ - 4-16-2015 at 03:29 PM

I think they are installing in Todos Santos now.

beckitos - 4-16-2015 at 06:20 PM

Seems acquiring the service was excedingly well worth the risk.

Mula - 4-16-2015 at 06:31 PM

We are so happy with Exede here in San Nicolas!!!!

So this map doesn't mean anything?

Russ - 4-16-2015 at 07:39 PM

I watched some videos this afternoon and all of a sudden Excide stopped working. I got it back up but it was REALLY slow and had to go back to Hughes.

tecatero - 4-17-2015 at 05:11 AM

Can you get Excede in La Paz ??????? Cant find much info on it

Russ - 4-17-2015 at 05:25 AM

I had Excede turned off last night when I got up I plugged it back in and surprise.....

Fast!

Bob and Susan - 4-17-2015 at 05:39 AM

I have a wireless router coming this week...
it's a router that limits the data use per day

the software inside is the trick
it limits "the kids" from FAPing you in a day or two

i'll post a report how it works

this FAST internet is a "deal with the devil"
it works so well you download a lot more each page

the "unlimited data" plan that is available in some parts of the usa is not available here...yet...
when it is...this FAPing problem will be a thing of the past

Alm, a company, Internet4baja, has purchased satellite space on one of the Mexican Satellites and is routing their service through that. So when you sign up with them, it is a different version of Excede and not to be confused with what is offered in the US.

Alm - 4-17-2015 at 10:53 AM

thanks Jim, got it now.

It not just "you". It's "them" who make you download it. More and more garbage on every page. In the past it was just picture ads and links, now it's all jumping up and down, moving animations, screens with videos opening etc. The higher the speed, the more they are trying to put on the web, and it slows down and makes you craving for more speed. Satellite users suffer the most.

Alm - 4-17-2015 at 11:16 AM

To brush Jim's info up a little, if I may: internet4baja is not a company, it's a username for posting here at Nomads. The company website is satelitedelnorte.com though it doesn't see to work. From what I recall now, they do exist :)

Perhaps I'm getting too old, but,

May I ask...

What is Fapd?

The google definition is masturbation.

FAP stands for Fair Access Policy. http://legal.hughesnet.com/FairAccessPolicyGen4.cfm

It's a temporary reduction in speed caused by exceeding your monthly data usage allotment under your satellite provider's plan. Depending on what sort of websites you're visiting, it very well could be associated with masturbation.

Thanks, DanO!
