Need Help for NORRA Mexican 1000

ISS129 - 4-16-2015 at 09:41 AM

Hello,

Will anyone be in San Jaunico/Scorpion Bay on Monday April 27th when the NORRA race passes through there? We are in need of someone who can bring some fuel and pit two vintage race cars. We will have cash to make it worth your while. Thank you!

La Parisma would work also if no one is going to be near San Jaunico.

Or does anyone know if there is a Pmex or fuel available in either of these two towns? Here is our car incase anyone is interested.

There is fuel available most days but you shouldn't count on it on race day.

Very cool having Malcolm Smith's race buggy! Best of luck to you.

The NORRA map shows a Mag 7 pit at El Datil which is about 65 miles from San Ignacio. From El Datil to Hwy 1 at KM60 is about 110 miles. What is the range of your car?

Our range is maybe 180 and the stage is 175. The other car that needs help has a 150 mile range. This is the only stage that we are cutting it close, so the cost of Mag 7 doesn't make a lot of sense. We are thinking we might send a chase truck down the course from San Ignacio as it is nice pavement for about 30 miles on the way to Scorpion Bay. Topping the fuel 30-40 miles into the stage would solve the problem. Anyone been down this road lately and know how far the pavement extends now?

The pavement is about 30 miles then graded road. The 1000 went inland a few miles to avoid the mud flats before the Laguna, not sure where NORRA is going. A couple of spots on the main road maybe 1/4 to 1/2 mile long are single lane. The chase truck should not have any problems going maybe 40 miles as long as he knows where the actual course goes or setup before or at El Datil. Maybe run down to where Mag 7 is.

Pavement extends 27 miles out from San Ignacio. There are a few new washouts to watch for on the paved stretch. There are three gas stations in San Juanico that all sell verde from the barrel. Premium is rare in San Juanico. I can put you in touch with some friends that would love to help out- both local and American. They are huge race fans and will be there spectating anyhow.
Ill be chasing 2 trucks in the pre run class. Good luck to you guys!
Off to the Baja Sur in the am!

Is Baja Pits not involved with this NORRA race? How about other pit teams where you can just pay for the pitting you need and not the whole course?

No DK only Mag 7 is doing fixed pits. Baja Pits has been out of it for a couple of years. The individual race teams can have pits but they are not allowed on the race course until after the last race vehicle goes by. So if you are pitting you need to stay put. But as we all know when most have gone by going down the course is usually no big deal. Why Mag 7 is at El Datil instead of closer to San Juanico baffles me. You got a 180 mile section and you are pitting 60-65 miles in and no other pits further down. 90 miles would be much better, half way. Except for the two strokes the bikes can do 90 miles and the two strokes can carry gas.

Maybe they figure pit at 60 miles and then the racer can get gas further down in the towns.
