Anybody bought a set of the new BFG TA KO2s in the US?

Hook - 8-26-2015 at 04:32 PM

Size 31x10.5x15?

I just got back from the tire shop and I am now the owner of my first set of BFG tires ever. Ultimately, I bought them down here (Sonora) solely because of the price.

Out the door including balancing, new valve stems, nitrogen filled, a complete front end alignment, it was 10,533 pesos. There was a 20% discount going on till August 30, for buying a set of four. Not sure if this was on this brand or just a shop discount or what. This was at a Tyre Plus store in Guaymas.

A further breakdown:

Balancing, 50 pesos/tire
valve stems, 10 pesos/tire
mounting/nitrogen FREE

each tire 2297 pesos after 20% discount

All taxes are included in the prices above.

How close is this to US prices on these tires? I charged it on my Visa card and got 16.9 today. So, the tires worked out to be 136.91.

I was going to buy some Toyos of the same size down here. I got an estimate almost exactly a month ago. Today, when I went back, those tires had increased by 500 pesos per tire!!!!! They were much more than the BFG TA KO2s. They were just short of 2800 per tire.

BTW, the shop asked me if I wanted the BFG TA KOs or the KO2s. Same price. I chose the newer ones. Was that a good choice?

I hadnt done ANY research on these tires because I have been wary of BFG tires since I had friends that had blowout and flat issues with them in the 90s.

seems like a screaming deal for any new tire!

Mine were like $1300. LT 285's on 18" rim.

Yes, a good choice... the KO2 is supposed to have fixed the sidewall weakness the All Terrain TAs have had. I look forward to your continued report of them. Photos please!

That's a great price! A little better than we get from the BFG race program.

Two days ago -- Discount Tire -- LT235/75X15 Load C $150 each. KO were the same price in that size, 30X9.50X15 were in the neighborhood of $170. Gave them a workout today, no flats.

Beat me by a long shot: 265 65R 18 were in the $1200 range. 'merica's tires.
Couldn't even get them at Costco

So without the discount they were 2872.00 or just under 170.00. Is that about the going rate in the US?

I assume that Discount Tires/America's Tires are pretty competitive.

My originals were 30x9.5x15 but nobody has those down here. I opted for these and they dont seem to be rubbing inside the wheel wells.

Very surprising that they would actually be less down here, though many of us over here have noticed that tires have become very competitively priced in Mexico, compared to the US. And the labor is way less, I believe. Mounting, balancing and stems for 3.50/tire? That's cheap.

Sadly, ATV tires are still way expensive down here, compared to Rocky Mtn.

Hook: your size is $782 "out the door" on America's Tires website; or $195 each (I did the math for you as I believe you were in the Humanities?) :-)

Humanities/Communication Arts guys can operate calculators!!! :fire:

Very surprised at how cheap these were down here. I guess a favorable exchange rate could account for some of it but not nearly all of it. That 20% descuenta was key, apparently.

And again, my above price was out the door with all the other BS that gets added on. I think they quoted like $1230 or something on phone. This was in Ocenaside.

Be cAreful focusing on price, as tires are commonly counterfeited goods. The Chinese tire factories pump out a lot of counterfeits.
I would stick to reputable dealers for tires

I suppose I could pick a serial no. off of one and send it to BFG and see what they say.

Tyre Plus IS a huge, worldwide tire dealership. Of course, that's no guarantee that they dont carry counterfeits, though.

I run 33x12.15-15 on my truck. A month ago the KO2 were not available in that size. Now they are and the KO's are in short supply. Discount Tire wants $250/tire out the door with tax, mounting, and life-time balancing. The KO's were $20 less/tire.

The price I see on this 4Wheel Parts website [http://pub.vitrue.com/TmXo] is $198/tire. Print the page showing your tire size and ask Discount Tire to match the price. Their labor prices may differ from 4 Wheel Parts' however.

I saw your link after I posted. Ya, I'm going to do that. Discount can't argue shipping since free ship-to-store is an option, and I have a local 4WP store locally.

Holy cow. BFG has a $70 rebate going on. There is no way I can't afford to get tires now. Plus 4WP is also taking $50 off a set of four. That takes the tires down to $186.50 each.
