A local dealer here has a couple of new 9.9hp Merc, 4 stroke, at a screaming deal and I need to replace my motor pushing a 15' Gregor around the local
lakes. I would prefer more like a 15hp motor. I have 'heard' that many 9.9s are tweeked down in order to get under the 10hp taxing levels in many
states. Anyone know if this is true and if so, can this motor be tweeked up in some way?

I would suggest if you get no help on MERC info you might
look at TOHATSU--I am sure ???? tohatsu makes all of the little mercs as well as some other brands--good luck
I hade a 9.9 tohatsu on a hard bottom inflatable--was scary fast !!

I know my 9.9 Merc from 2005 is a Tohatsu - kicker on my Baja boat.
