Travel convoy/partners

river16guy - 9-25-2015 at 08:32 AM

We're a couple in our 30's looking to cross the border around November 20th taking 6 days or so to travel down to La Ventana for the kiteboard season. This will be our first time in Baja. We'll have a truck with slide in camper.

That's right in the middle of the baja 1000. No need for a convoy. You will have a ton of gringo travel partners. Be careful on hwy 1. Alot of the chase vehicles will be in a big hurry.

I know that the course has not been posted yet, but I understand that it is a loop this year, starting and ending in the north.

When they run a loop, how far south would I expect to run into race traffic?

ehall - 9-25-2015 at 02:59 PM

In 2013. The last loop I believe. It went as far south as Chapala. That's where hwy 1 and 5 meet.

personally I avoid traveling at all during these races

people drive like mad men,, not just the chase vehicle and support staff,, it seems the general public looses their brains
during these events

Friday Nov. 20 will be race day. Lots of traffic in Ensenada. Near the convention center the streets north bound lanes will be closed. and the south bod lanes split up for two way traffic. San Mateos will be shut down for the race vehicles turning into the wash. Traffic from chase teams and spectators will be heavy on hwy 1. You will be in the eye of the hurricane so to speak.

I suggest you go a couple of days earlier or the Monday after.

Word....

AKgringo - 9-26-2015 at 03:01 PM

I am pretty sure that the traffic on Mex 3, and 5 will be heavier than usual as well.

BajaBlanca - 9-26-2015 at 04:54 PM

Adam - take heed as the traffic will be oh so crazy during the race.

You are going to love Baja, La Ventana - is very beautiful!

Bob and Susan - 9-26-2015 at 04:59 PM

yup horrible traffic...after el Rosario ...instead of seeing a car every 30 minutes you'll see one every 10 minutes

BajaBlanca - 9-26-2015 at 05:23 PM

that's true.... what Bob says is true. Heck, if I see 3 cars at a time here, I wonder what is going on!

you will be fine after El Rosario but I would still avoid the race, myself.

Anyone else noticed that river16guy has been absent since his first post?

BajaBlanca - 9-26-2015 at 06:52 PM

He is stuck in traffic dt!

river16guy - 9-29-2015 at 01:50 PM

Haha yea sorry about that I thought id get a message in my email when the thread had some traffic. Thanks for your replies, looking forward to checking it out. Should be crossing on the 27th so maybe after the race is winding down.

TMW - 9-29-2015 at 06:50 PM

All the SCORE racers and chasers and spectators will be gone by then. A few may stay down to relax, explore and fish but all the excitement of the race will be gone and you will have miles and miles of highway to yourself.

wise choice to postpone

BooJumMan - 9-30-2015 at 01:44 PM

When are they going to post the course route?

TMW - 9-30-2015 at 03:17 PM

SCORE will show the map this weekend at the Off Road Expo in Pomona. GPS and course detail notes will not be posted until pre-run time around Nov. 1st.
