Those fish farms on our coast have been contentious and criticized since their inception...and I believe such investigations have provided evidence of the harm caused by these fish farms...the lobbying of the fish farms have seemed to be the "winners" so far....

What is Mexico gaining here? Tuna pens....or that and more?

I think Mexico farms a lot more shrimp than tuna. That is probably their motivation.

At least over here, it has been 2-3 years since the shrimp farms have managed to make it through the year without a disease forcing them to drain the farms for the bulk of the season.

I really thought Canada was above this kind of politically and monetarily motivated environmental decision. I guess not. If the US or Mexico was accused of this, it wouldn't surprise me.

It should be noted that this article is almost a year old. What has happened since, I wonder? Certainly that coalition of groups would not lay down on this.

Mexico recently approved a 300 hectare area north of La Paz to raise red snapper, in the area they are currently raising blue fin in net pens.
