Sierra de San Francisco Trip Report

Bajaboy - 6-12-2016 at 03:30 PM

I'm going to keep this short but wanted to share some pics. Returned from a few days up in the canyon. We had a great time. I decided to hike into and out of the canyon. Great hike but I only suggest if you are in good shape. The hike out was 6 miles with 2600 ft of gain.

The trip was better than I ever imagined. The guides were great and very informative. We will be returning especially since the village is only 3 hours outside of Bahia Asuncion.

Here are a few short picture videos. Enjoy!

Excellent, beautiful country. Thanks

StuckSucks - 6-12-2016 at 04:30 PM

CRAP - now something else I have to add to my bucket list! Thanks for sharing - spectacular country. I see what you said: the trail looks a bit strenuous.

KurtG - 6-12-2016 at 05:38 PM

Did that trip on mule back 15 or so years ago and camped near Cueva Pintada two nights. A memorable experience and the arroyo would be worth the trip even without the paintings. A spectacular place.

We said the same thing. The cave paintings were merely icing on the cake.

BajaBlanca - 6-12-2016 at 06:21 PM

Really beautiful. We have never been -on the bucket list.

Bajaboy, Thanks for sharing your family trip, my parents took me and my siblings to the west coast of Mexico when we were that age (1957 and 59). I still have vivid memories of those trips!

One of the memories was of being the only blond kids around, and people were occasionally rubbing our heads for good luck! I know it sounds strange, but it happened more than a few times, and I was wondering if your kids were getting that kind of attention?

Yes, definitely!

They have both been travelling to Baja since only a few weeks old. We spend an average of 2.5 months per year here. Both speak Spanish as they are in dual immersion back in San Diego. Almost everyone in Bahia Asuncion knows both of the kids by name. They have opened many doors along the way.

Lucky Kids!

AKgringo - 6-12-2016 at 06:47 PM

And parents of course. What Spanish I know, I mostly picked up on those trips. Oh to be able to soak it up like a sponge again!

Hi Tracy and Zac,
You guys finally got to that part of your neighborhood, that is great, very happy for you. Mica sure is a big girl now!

Ateo - 6-13-2016 at 06:45 AM

As stated above, your kids will remember this trip and tell stories of it throughout their lives. What a gift.

Hola Fernando,

When are you going to visit us? We're here until July 12.

Time to watch 'Bajo California: The Limit of Time' again!
Was your guide an Arce?

Mika is already asking if we can return next year for her birthday again. Good chance we'll head back again early next June. How about if we debrief at Pizza Port in Mid July when we return?!

elgatoloco - 6-25-2016 at 01:43 PM

I think we should talk about it at your place in Baja before you head north and get back into the rat race!

Bump!

GATO - 2-18-2017 at 09:23 PM

Bajaboy, did you make reservations before showing up? If so how far in advance? This place is on my bucket list. Also what was the cost breakdown and where did you go?

fishbuck - 2-18-2017 at 10:53 PM

Nice report thanks. Looks beautiful and a trip worth doing.
