Co-author/ historian Max Kurillo of our 2012 book, The Old Missions of Baja & Alta California will also be on hand. Max has co-starred with Huell
Howser more than once on Huell's TV series, California Gold.

at 7:00pm in San Diego.
Join us as we learn about where and when the Spanish missions were founded on the Baja peninsula. The missions are an important part of California
history and many of the Baja missions or mission sites are still accessible today. This will be a treat for history buffs, adventure seekers and Baja
lovers!
Copies of “Baja California Land of Missions” will be available for purchase and signing.

The PowerPoint (slide) show is this Thursday, 7 pm to 8 pm, Liberty Station. There are still available seats as of today, so RSVP if you would like to
come. I have added photos that I took at Mission San Fernando two days ago to the presentation.
Both books will be available for sale and signing, and are discounted to offset the small seating charge Discover Baja is collecting for room rental.

stayed after to ask questions and discuss Baja travel. I counted about 50 and every seat was filled with a couple folks standing, too. Thank you to

With my phone, I took a couple photos a few minutes before the start... traffic was heavy, so we began a few minutes after 7 so everyone who RSVP'd
could be there and we had room for the few folks that showed up hoping to get in without a reservation. Iced water bottles and cookies were served.

Questions about the lost mission site at Las Animas, about visitas, about how many missions there were, about how to find Calamajué from Coco's Corner
and can an FJ Cruiser (lifted) get to Mission Santa María are the ones that come to mind.
One of my slides were of three Jesuits who were key to the missions getting established (Kino, Salvatierra, Ugarte) and the image of Kino (I found on
the Internet) shows him in perhaps incorrect dress, one mission fan there noticed.
The Jesuits wore black robes... so I think he is correct and this may not be Kino's true image. The only other Kino image I found when making the
PowerPoint slide program was of a statue of him on a burro in Mexico.

There is no complete list of visitas, so I can't name them in all. I may do a writing project about visitas to list all that I can find named for the
various missions.
There are a few missions I have not been on the ground at. Max Kurillo or other close mission experts I have been working with have, however.
The list from north to south of missions I have not personally 'touched' would be: San Pedro Martir, Guadalupe (del Sur), La Purísima, San Luis
Gonzaga, and Los Dolores. 5 of the 27. I have not been to Comondú since 1966, as well. Todos Santos we just drove past without stopping (I had a Nomad
guide in my truck directing me through that day).
