what do suppose the dual sport guy is holding?

AKgringo - 8-9-2016 at 12:42 PM

What are some examples of "Adventure" motorcycles? If I ever buy another moto, I want to be able to recognize when I have been profiled away from the Dual Sport that I wanted to buy.

The Dual Sport profile is probably holding a brochure he was handed when he went in to shop for a dirt bike!

A diploma for being smart enough to not go any faster or get any fatter!

ehall - 8-9-2016 at 01:49 PM

Dual sport= ktm exc 450
Adventure= ktm 990

I would expect the dual sport guy is holding an empty beer glass.

StuckSucks - 8-9-2016 at 02:08 PM

I ride a four stroke, but have the profile of a two-stroke rider. ANOTHER PIZZA PLEASE!

It's a bad fuel dongle.

Spot on for me - dual sport. I'm holding a beer flask. But first a bit of tequila.

Chuckie,
I get all misty-eyed with your flattery....

No offense taken...

chuckie - 8-11-2016 at 01:41 PM

I had a plastic surgeon remove the callus's from my knuckles, but they growed back....

motoged - 8-11-2016 at 05:10 PM

Chuckie,
That happens to hard-core riders

del mar - 8-11-2016 at 05:15 PM

I have a problem with the trials profile....these days when I think of a trials rider I think LAIA SANZ!

chuckie - 8-11-2016 at 05:18 PM

It was the same guy that made me look like Brad Pitt..

BigBearRider - 8-11-2016 at 05:35 PM

This is funny.

My first motorcycle was a Honda 500XL. I was 19 or 20. I was in extremely good shape then. A friend blew the engine on the Honda, and I was without a bike for a little while.

Next was a 1996 Harley Sportster 883. I got it new (and still have it), and I must have been 22 or so. I was in extremely good shape then. Think a very humble elite gymnast.

Then, I went to law school. I moved to the right of the profile spectrum.

At some point, I bored out the 883 to 1200 cc.

Then I got a new 2004 Harley Road King. I rode that for a couple of years, when I was in much lesser shape. I was never Harley-fat, but more Dual Sport-fat. I still have the bike, but never ride it.

In 2009, I got a 2007 BMW 1200 GS Adventure for a trip to South America. I returned from that trip 20 lbs lighter than I started.

At some point around 2010 or so, I got a 2007 Suzuki DRZ-400s dual sport. I rode that around Big Bear for a while, but it's now at our house in Baja.

I am somewhere between a 2-stroke dirt bike and a 4-stroke. Say a 3-stroke, hoping to get to 2-stroke again!

True. Ever hear of seal-shaped? Shaped like a seal? Or a manatee?

I forgot the point of my story. I rode the Harleys when I was the fittest I've ever been. It's been all downhill since then.

motoged - 8-11-2016 at 07:59 PM

A guy needs to be in shape with a HD...it's a long push to get
home... ;)

BigBearRider - 8-11-2016 at 10:11 PM

Funny enough, both of my Harleys have been virtually flawless for 20 years. (The last 6 have been easy, since I don't ride them anymore...)

Sweetwater - 8-12-2016 at 10:32 AM

Met a rider outside of Glacier NP 2 weeks ago on a 2004 Harley. He bought it new, mileage that day was 156,286 miles. I was somewhat impressed since I know I haven't ridden that many miles and even if I include my car/truck miles, I'd come up short. When you retire and stop driving every day, it's amazing how few miles you accumulate and the long trips don't make it up.

Harleys in recent years have become quite dependable but like most new bikes are now out of my budget. My '91 KLR has 160,000 miles of which I have put on 145,000. Since I live in a great year round riding area I am on a bike pretty much every day. I haven't kept actual mileage records but am certain I am over 500,000 miles over more than 50 years of riding. I'm hoping for at least 10 more years on two wheels which will take me into my mid-80's. As to the profiles, these days I am in between the dual sport and adventure rider shapes trying to work toward the former.
