The Pyramids! Teotihuacan

We have been traversing Mexico City daily by subway - cheap at 5 pesos, it will take you clear across town to wherever you might want to go. Quiet. Fast. and Pretty!








Here we are with the pyramid of the sun in the background











It is HUGE and our buddy from England Arthur and I decided we would climb it as far as we could.
















Here we are about half way up - see us with our arms high towards the left of the pic?









and the camera could not focus on us as we were too far away, but we made it to the TOP!!!









At 60, this ole lady has some Life in her!!

Can you please explain in detail which subway and bus you took?

sure - it is so easy! Below is the link where I got the information.

Once you get inside the Metro - look for the maps.

find the Autobuses del Norte so you can see where you are headed.

Each line has a number. a color and a symbol and the way to figure out which way is: find the final destination name. find the name of the stop you get off. If this is a transfer then find the next destination end station and then find the name of where you get off.

Ridiculously easy. and cheap at 5 pesos no matter how far you are going! We just bought a bunch of tickets to save a little time as we knew we were going most places by metro.

I threw away my mini subway map that I got at the metro station - ask for one at your hotel ... mine was tiny (about 8" by 5") and easy to carry around. My lifesaver as I have zero sense of direction.

IMPORTANT

remember that once at the pyramid, you must return to GATE 1 to get back to subway station. Buses are normal buses and they go by every 15 minutes all day long. There is a police tent right there and they are really helpful and refused to accept a tip from Les. Ain't that a first?

Gate 1 is where they drop you off - there are a total of 5 gates and they are spread wide apart. and I mean wide apart so pace yourself to be able to return. somewhere there are small trolley buses inside that can take you around but this time we didn't see any.

How much time it was for one way (from the Centro to the pyramids)?

I would say about 2 hours. and not a very pretty trip either since it is the outskirts of the city. tourbuses charge $40 to $50 so it is much less expensive this way - 5 pesos for subway = total 10 pesos. Bus cost was something like 48 pesos and half that for us oldies but goldies.

BIG savings and much faster by subway.

I visited Teotihuacan as a side trip from Mexico City. For under $40, we got a pretty nice tour with a knowledgable guide, bus to and from our hotels plus a nice lunch stop nearby.

Your trip sounds great but for us an extra $40 each when we are doing so much on the trip is just too much. I always take guide books and become the "tourguide" on the trip LOL

The subway at 5 pesos is dirt cheap and the regular bus at 50 pesos cheap and a hoot - for a bit we were hanging out with the locals who were on their way to or from work.

What I really appreciated was the fact that only local native Indian descendants can sell their wares. I will post some pics later of the crafts we bought....very beautiful and very unique.

yeah, that's the way to go. i've never been a budget traveler, and I've always been on limited vacation time so haven't done much "slow travel" yet...that will all change next month when I leave my job to travel full time!
