It's great that there are more and more options for our full time solar systems. I just bought new batteries 2 years ago so I'll have some time to see how these Tesla power cells hold up and if they're going to be cost effective. Maybe as new innovations are developed the cost of lead acid batteries will become more reasonable. I hate the maintenance of lead acid batteries. Telsa's roof tiles seem like an attractive option too.

The Tesla powerwall system is meant for typical grid tied solar systems where the panels are in series to get a voltage in the 400 volt range. So if you want to use this Tesla battery in an off grid system you need to get the voltage from the panels or batteries up to about 400 volts . Then the voltage output has to be 240/120 for use in your house.
If you want Lithium Iron P04 (LFP) batteries , they are typically 3.2 volts per cell and of varying Ahs up to 700. 8 of the 3.2 volt cells will get you to a 24 volt nominal system. Thus you can use your present inverter and solar charge controller. Then you should have a BMS ( computer) that keeps the cell voltages balanced. There is no maintenance and you can draw out 80% without shortening the life/cycles.

I wonder if they have made any progress with shading issues that lead to large voltage output drops.

Seems like having so many discrete tiles/panels could offer some wiring/gridding options to deal with that. I have no idea how these tiles interconnect.
