Mex 1 Road report, 4 January, 2017

I returned a little early from our trip to the house in Bahia Asunción, and here are my road findings to as far South as Vizcaino and BA:

The road report applies to southbound travelers as well as Northbound travelers.

These last rains really made a huge mess in Ensenada. Very large and deep potholes on the main drag (Reforma). Municipal workers are not using cold patch to fill the holes...only sand!

Maneadero is as bad as always. Stay away from the right lane because there is lots of mud puddles.

Santo Thomas Valley:
About ½ mile of road torn apart for widening, starting at the south end of the bridge and continuing way past the police station.

The same valley is also home for 5 more road widening projects and each get too be a bigger mess with each rain storm. In two of those projects, Mextrans is running one-way traffic breaks, or stopping the traffic both ways to accommodate dump trucks as well as graders.

Altogether you may expect about an additional 45 min. to an hour to your driving time.

The traditional bazillion pot holes around the Cataviña rocks is lessened considerably because of cold patch repairs, but the two washes also near Cataviña are a huge mess because Mextrans is trying to make a permanent fix, and the rains have destroyed some of the new work.

The road south of Cataviña and going all the way to Nuevo Rosarito (about 150 miles) is home to some of the major epic Baja pot holes, with the northbound lanes being a lot worse than the Southbound lanes. From there South (now Baja California Sur), the road is just great!
