Whale Report from Ojo de Liebre

shari - 2-10-2017 at 12:30 PM

The first week of February has brought great weather and surprisingly there are already well over 2000 whales in the lagoon. The Feb 3rd census counted 1184 adults & 835 calves for a total of 2019! Whale numbers are up and tourist numbers are way down! It's whale soup out there.

The mothers have started bringing their babies up to the pangas to meet us and there are lots of friendly whales playing with the boats. The calves are getting older now and beginning their endurance training to build up muscle tissue in their flippers and also are practicing breaching and porpoising and playing with kelp.

This poor Osprey family chose the wrong place to make a nest this winter...little did they know hundreds of tourists would be snapping pictures of them!

We have had some cancellations so seats have opened back up on some of my tours..you can see what we do at www.whalemagictours.com

Don't you hate cancellations?

shari - 2-10-2017 at 12:45 PM

Actually no I dont Udo...gives others a chance and I dont mind not being full! Things happen to all of us especially in Mexico so we have to roll with it!

And there are more cruising north through the channel in front of the Bufadora Inn... they were having a party there yesterday along the way

Shari, you better snap up the Salmon offer. The commercial fishermen on the Oregon coast are getting $9.00/lb. for Salmon now, so the sky is the limit in the store. A thirty lb Salmon is common this time of year so that will bring almost $300/fish.
