Whale shark info in Mulege

jbcoug - 2-23-2017 at 03:43 PM

I will be passing through Mulege in a couple of weeks with a friend. He only has a few days in the area. Is there someone or somewhere in Mulege where I could find out if and where there may be whalesharks in the bay? Someone with a panga that would take us out would be great or if someone could direct us if there are any where we could kayak to would also be good. Any contacts would be appreciated!

The small one (12-15'?)in Conception has been around most days this month. Kayakers out of El Burro and El Coyote have been paddling with it fairly often.

Probably won't find many tours there because legally the person should have a permit to get near the whales. At least that is what is done everywhere else with whale tour operations.

The permit setup only exists where there is a tour operation to protect financially. And rightly so in my opinion.

The whale shark in Bahia Conception doesn't even notice the kayakers and swimmers. By the way, it's not a whale.

I checked the whale shark itinerary( whales .com) online and we need more info. Date expected in the area, arrival time and how far out you're willing to go for the experience. With this info you can uber it and have the whale delivered close to you. Oh I meant the fish.

Ummm . . . .

I'll ask the whale about his vacation plans tomorrow if I see him (her?).

Wait a minute. You mean the human's rival times and stuff. Sorry.

I was in LaPaz two weeks ago and a couple of people told me they were happy with some sort of whale shark experience based there. Guaranteed sitings I understand.

Whale Sharks La Paz

I went on a whale shark trip several weeks ago in La Paz and we saw only 1 whale shark in the bay. If it is windy the plankton stirs up the water so much that you can barely seem them inless they are near the surface. Also if you have other boats around with idiots who don't know how to swim with fins, i.e., splashing everywhere which usually scares off any of them. I'm going to wait and go to Bahia de Los Angeles later this year and hopefully have better luck there with much less tourists as in La Paz.
