next time the news will do an article for you, about elderly alcoholics living in dumpy trailer parks in remote beach areas where summer humidity and temps are unbearable, the trash is only picked up annually up by passing hurricanes, and the conversation topics are only trump, fishing, motor bikes and ATVs/UTVs (glorified golf carts) for those to old to ride bikes

Well? What else is worth talking about?

ehall - 3-17-2017 at 07:56 PM

I fit in there somewhere, I'm skirting that description.
Was a guy who paddled a kayak from El Gulfo
to the East Cape, Ed Darrack, has a book, 'Wind Sun Water', he had a line about
observations of the area no. of San Felipe, mentioned old
Gringos living in trailers, called them 'alcoholic desert trash',
a bit harsh, one should not judge, you know those 'so called
judges'. Fortunately I throttled back on the excessive beer
intake yrs. back. Chances are I'll be in a trailer in Baja
in a few months. But I do ride a bicycle 150 mi. a week, not
a lot, but it is something

It takes all kinds doesn't it? Sure there's the hippy-dippy close to the earth with dreadlocks crew, and the old sometimes bitter burn-outs, and hard core fishers, and the super secretive surfers, and the uber rich I-only-fly-in-on-my-own-jet setters, and the I've been coming here for XX years boasters, and the ones that built houses at their dream spots (some of whom live there full time, some part time and some who are hardly ever there... "oh, the Cabo house. we don't get down there much" Yep, they never figured out the Ex in the Ex-Pat thing).

And we have our weekend warriors, our dirt track purists, our oh my god Cabo is an abomination elitists, our oh my god Cabo is the bomb party girls, and everyone in between.

Main thing is most ex-pats I meet are interesting folks. Sure some may have moved away from troubles up north, but most worked to figure out how to make their dreams happen and managed to pull it off. They generally have an open world view and value new ideas.

That said, it's kinda fun down here. I just watched the southern Sea of Cortez turn a light shade of lavender as the sun set over the mountains. Had a nice little surf in small waves with my neighbors this AM. People are great. Still some dirt road left to get to my house. All is good in this Ex-Pat life.

Always remember, people stay in Baja for reasons.

That tude some have irks me, I've seen it here also. Unless
some have come out of the womb, with 6 trips to the tip
under their belt, we all started out with the same zero
Baja experience, some have had a bit of a head start
depending on one's age, or have been introduced to Mex
a little later in life

I think that is a very interesting video report. Everyone comes for their own reasons. Adapting is also different for each of us, we sure ain't in Kansas!
