BajaNomad

please be on the look out for a stolen panga. . .FOUND minus motors and other items

Update: 1:10pm May 13, 2017:

They have found the boat. Motors, gas cans, radio, tackle boxes missing. Last night a big old white van was parked at mid Coyote with two men no one knew in it. The driver big with huge beard. Just at dark they were seen walking the beach taking pictures of boats, etc. The van tracks were all different. One tire bald and the other three different threads. They found the boat just above Requeson where the tire tracks and two bare footed people had been. The damn fools left the keys to the motor however, so can't start it.
Our friend in town has called and given all information including serial numbers to the military checkpoints, federal highway police, and anyone he could think of. The night watch man on our beach says he is pretty sure the van came from Loreto. Spread the word. Last week a boat was taken from Santispac motors removed and left on Escondida. We need to get these guys.

Les is happy he has his boat back but he is going to look kind of silly out there rowing trying to go fast enough to catch a Dorado.

Was stolen last night from the north end of Coyote Bay.
Belongs to Les Hodges of the Burro fire volunteers.
If you see it, contact me and I will get word to Les.

So mean to steal a fisherman's motor and gear. I sure hope they find these hoodlums real fast.

Yes, getting the boat back was good!

Unfortunate, but that's what usually happens...Strip and abandon..Hope the guys are caught...

Bearded men in old vans! Yikes!

Sounds like locals need to put gps-alarms on their boats, so notified when boats moved, can track movement. 9Also a good thing to keep track of a boat dragging anchor or drifting loose)

Though I would think twice about confronting bearded men in old vans!

What about old guys in flip flops....or Nikes ?

What about just plain OLD GUYS...??? Like Ged? and Me?

We had a white van cruising around Pt. Chivato about the time we had a rash of break-ins. We ( our neighborhood watch) followed it around and the local police patrol was informed. Haven't heard of it since and there haven't been any more break-ins reported. The boats here over the years have been taken during no moon nights. Yet the one you're reporting was almost a full moon. Also those found had been stripped.
Everyone needs to talk to the local law and get their phone numbers and if possible get a neighborhood watch going. We all are keeping our radios on all night to respond during a crisis.

There is a new item on the radio up here in the states that attaches to iPhones or keys or most anything and it is a GPS tracker and alarm. Pretty small. Could be attached to motors, boats, etc. I think its called "Tile" but not sure. Might be something to look at

Maybe a reward for info leading to their recovery would turn up something.

I love the idea of a GPS tracker - the Tile is pretty cheap, I have one but I believe it has to be in blue tooth range. But a simple tracker hidden in the engine is a really good idea.
