Good for TJ, though the city needs more than food to rejuvenate itself,...

TJ food really stands out because San Diego is the nearest town to compare, and food here in San Diego is BORING!

It's certainly true that a flourishing food scene has developed in Tijuana. However, there has been a small number of very good restaurants for a long time, starting with La Fonda de Roberto and then Cien Años and La Diferencia. The 9-11 attack, the 2008 economic meltdown, and the drug violence put a big damper on the development of new restaurants catering to locals and visitors with more sophisticated tastes. Some excellent smaller restaurants, such as La Mansión del Quetzal, Aquí es Oaxaca, Lagartija, La Tradición, and Real de Potosí, didn't survive. They didn't serve the stereotypical border food.

I can hardly keep up with all the new restaurants. Many are very expensive. My recommendations for more reasonably priced menus are Kokopelli, now called Tras/Horizonte, and Telefónico GastroPark.
