Trouble in Paradise.

BajaBill74 - 6-12-2017 at 09:28 AM

Today's paper (Santa Rosa, Ca.) had this article. Look at the one at the bottom right.

Correction. Go to Page A10 for the article that starts "2 Heads".

Oh my gosh - awful news.

AKgringo - 6-12-2017 at 10:14 AM

Troubling news, no matter where it occurred. This is another article stating that it is near the Cabo Pulmo preserve, but from other reports, it sounds like it is actually no where near it!

Anyone down there now that can clear that up?

chippy - 6-12-2017 at 10:21 AM

Thanks for the heads up!

It's no where near Cabo Pulmo. The location of the 18 bodies is actually more than 30km (18.64 miles) from the south border of the Cabo Pulmo national park, but only 3.5 miles from the Puerto Los Cabos marina at San Jose. It's about 57km (35.41 miles) from the site to the community of Cabo Pulmo, which is about a 1hr & 45min drive. The site is near the gravel road that goes to down to Buzzards from the paved road.

Not sure but I recommend steering clear of used coolers.

Somehow i doubt these thoughtless attempts at puns would be made if any of these people murdered were your sons, daughters, spouses or dear friends.

I live near here part of the year and my local friends are fearful, worried and very sad about what is happening to the place they call home.

Cartels and their turf wars exist because of American's appetite for drugs, which is now ravaging Mexico due to cheap meth.

If you think about it, it is really not very funny at all.

I agree, not funny.

But blaming it on all Gringo druggies is a cop-out, as long as unbridled corruption and impunity dominate Mexico.

Not to mention the huge meth problem all over Mexico. Scumbags killing scumbags doesn´t make me sad.

I don't blame it ALL on gringos, just blame it MOSTLY on gringos.
According to DHS, mexican cartels annually take in between $19 and $29 billion from US drug sales.

Having a market is undeniably part of the show.

Here's a thought: Seriously, what do you think would happen with the Mexican cartels if the U.S. drug market suddenly dried up?

they'd step up their pirated goods, extortion, prostitution, kidnapping and lucrative mining business?

A Narco History, Carmen Boullosa

Informative, no blame, only facts.

azucena - 6-13-2017 at 06:43 PM

It ultimately is not about who is more to blame gringos or Mexicanos, but is about PEOPLE , the families whom are being devastated by the horrific effects of substance abuse , greed and misery.

How about the opiod crisis America is facing? Maybe some of you have a family member or friend who has lost someone dear to them trapped in the cycle of addiction. This problem transcends borders, walls, and culture. it just plays out differently.

No doubt the cartels are made up by some who seemingly have lost their humanity. They make millions on human trafficking as well.

let's not lose OUR humanity and decency by making fun of heads in a cooler. The effects of drug abuse can touch us all.

No Need to Lose your Head over a little Humor

Black Comedy can be Good Humor.

Nobody is going to lose their soul over a bad joke.

azucena,
Thank you for your insight. It is very thought provoking and inspiring.

There's a time for laughter and jokes. This is not that time. It's likely that most of those who were assassinated has an extended family that is devastated in one way or another.

Sometimes we get so wrapped up in our ideals, that we forget to be good humans.

If humans could figure that out, the world would be a much better place. The sides that we take and the organizations we support and the groups that have righteous agendas are often fundamental in creating the issues that divide us and often dissuade us from caring for other humans that are different from us. The things that bind us together also move us apart.

For whatever good that it does.

Human nature hasn't changed to any extent in a few thousand years.

And, there's no indication that it will.

As technology goes leaping forward toward Metaverse 1.0 the transparency will be undeniable and irresistible to human nature.

Interesting article, but is about synthetic opioids. Scary stuff. People really need to get the point across to their kids. Taking drugs is risky as is, but taking something basically unknown, from someone with no accountability, is just crazy.

The U.S. cracked down on the over-prescribing of actual opiods, and then BAM, what do you know, a new market opens up. Interesting how China has the chemicals, labs, dark web and distribution channels to jump right in there. Maybe that's part of the reason the MX cartels are trying to regroup and recoup some of their market share.
