Cheap beer!

SFandH - 6-26-2017 at 03:36 PM

In an attempt to post good news that most Nomads may be interested in, I'd like to report that a 12 pack of Coors Light can be had for 99 pesos in both Calimax and Walmart. I made this delightful discovery while shopping with a friend today in Playas de Tijuana.

At 18 p's per d that's (99/18)/12 or 46 cents per beer!!

Even Coors Light tastes good at that price.

bajabuddha - 6-26-2017 at 03:59 PM

Buy a Pacifico or a TKT, pour half in a glass, fill with water. It'd be cheaper in the long run and taste just the same. :barf:

Hmmmm, maybe. You would lose a lot of fizz though. Perhaps Club Soda but of course you would negate the cost savings after you bought the fizzy water.

Actually, I like Coors Light, but I know many don't like lite beer.

I find Pacifico in bottles skunky and Tecate rojo just plain ugly. The cans make good rodeside reflectors though. Full is better, they won't blow over.

Coors Light? = Sex on the beach, F###in near water..CHEAP aint always best...

SFandH - 6-26-2017 at 04:17 PM

Come on, it's made with John Denver mountain spring water, always refrigerated, except when stacked in Walmart aisles.

woody with a view - 6-26-2017 at 04:20 PM

i quit Coors when they killed the rabbit on the label.

willardguy - 6-26-2017 at 04:30 PM

its all we buy here, usually bud light is the same price. jug of clamato with capitan gormet and half filled with oso negro and you've got a tasty michelada...the beer just provides the bubbles ;)

willardguy - 6-27-2017 at 09:44 AM

I don't believe the taste matters to our baja aficionado's....cross that border throw on the tanktop, huaraches and straw hat with the corona band and get yourself one of those "tacos", probably from the Trailero, now snap a picture of your lunch for the folks back home and it better include a bottle of Pacifico!

mjs - 6-27-2017 at 09:50 AM

I like two kinds of beer. Free and cold. Not in any particular order.

AKgringo - 6-27-2017 at 09:59 AM

Nomads on a budget should seek out O.P. beer! (other people's)

It is the right beer for party crashing, or couch surfing!

SFandH - 6-27-2017 at 10:32 AM

It's all a matter of taste, of course. But free and cold are two big flavor enhancers, especially if it's Pacifico, Corona, Tecate Rojo, or Modelo pizz water.

Let the beer wars commence!! ;)

DawnPatrol - 6-27-2017 at 10:54 AM

To throw my two cents in:

I really like the flavor of Corona Light
But when I'm chowing down on Mex food with rice/beans its Negra Modelo all the way

sancho - 6-27-2017 at 11:01 AM

I know, don't live in the past, but back in the day, early '80's,
when the true depositos were common, with
nothing for sale but cerveza, the 20 bottle carton, if you
had a carton of empties to exchange, was a couple cents under
$3.00, about $.15 a bottle, don't know how that stacks up to
inflation though

Paco Facullo - 6-27-2017 at 11:17 AM

All beer is good, just sum is better than others.

My two favorites are Paciico and Bohemia

But being X Navy, retired plumber , and fisherman and Baja guy,

I've never met a beer I didn't like. :P

on a side note...interestingly enough (at least in the rosarito area) modelo negra is still sold in returnables, I have no idea why?

When was beer drinking considered classy?

SDROB - 6-27-2017 at 02:12 PM

This is an excellent deal and Coors Light has it's place. I love drinking watered down beer in the hot sun on the beach.

It goes down easy and you can drink them all day without getting too buzzed or hungover. About 6 for me in one day is were I cap out.

willardguy - 6-27-2017 at 02:13 PM

lol...now some phatphuksheeppharmer is gonna school us on "class"!
you're welcome for the input

Lee - 6-27-2017 at 02:15 PM

I'm judging beer, not the individual drinking it.

Coors Light is the lowest form of beverage to call itself beer. If that's all you can afford to drink, and don't know the difference between great beer (Samuel Smith Pale Ale), and not so great beer, fine with me.

Brewery's have exploded between California and Colorado. Even Pescadero has one.

Save your pennies, you'll thank me later.

Same with tequila. Don't call Cuervo Gold sipping tequila. No matter what you've heard.

Hey, I mostly drink light beer because I drink SO DAMN much of it.

I don't drink sodas and drink beer like water. Although I do make sure to get my adequate water consumption each day.

If I drank exclusively good heavier beers I would be even MORE of a drunk and have an even BIGGER beer belly. No thanks.

When I was a kid in WA Coors was not sold, so was a rare bird, had mystique, people coming from out of state would bring it.
Never was impressed with coors or any of the mass-produced lagers, but we drank them because that's all there was.
The chit we drank in the 70s and 80s was pee compared to today's good microbrews.
While I am nostalgic for Raineer, Mickeys BigMouth, schlitz, generic beer and colt 45, I don't miss them!
Anybody still drinking coors, Miller, bud, tecate, etc., must be a smoker with dead taste buds!

Well technically, Colt 45 and Country Club are malt liquors, so swearing off of them still leaves a lot of wiggle room for beer in your oath!

Pabst Blue Ribbon and Pizza... marriage of flavors.

One conclusion is easily drawn from this thread.....Lots of CHEAP sumbiches on here....

Geo_Skip - 6-29-2017 at 02:50 PM

Coors would be overprices at half of that.

You are aware that Coors is brewed from rice, because rice starches convert to alcohol without adding anything to the body or flavor of the brew?

If you really don't like beer, have a coors!

chuckie - 6-29-2017 at 02:53 PM

Now that's pure BS...RICE????

mtgoat666 - 6-29-2017 at 03:09 PM

Another reason to not drink coors: it was once owned by ultra-conservative Adolfo coors, who hated unions (and some said was a N-zi/kkk guy),... and now it's owned by corporate beer conglomerate.
Support small biz, don't drink N-zi corporate beer!

chuckie - 6-29-2017 at 03:38 PM

I dunno where you get some of this stuff, Goatley...But keep it up, gives me something to laugh about...I have known Pete Coors for years, and he is a really nice guy. wassup wid dat?

willardguy - 6-29-2017 at 03:57 PM

LBT....don't drink it if the mountains aren't blue

bezzell - 6-29-2017 at 04:00 PM

LOVE the mexican 'Lite' beers ... 1.5% (?) that you can chug in the afternoon for that refreshing beer taste and then get back in the water and still stand up on the board!!

SFandH - 6-29-2017 at 04:07 PM

4.2%, says so right on the can

bajabuddha - 6-29-2017 at 04:10 PM

Another Coors story...
'71-'74 I lived in NW Tennessee (one year military). Because Coors wasn't sold east of the Mississippi it was a 'big deal', hence the adage if you can't get it then it must be worth something. Whenever I'd drive back to my home State of Utah and return I'd always throw several cases of Coors in my trunk (and it was only 3.2 pizzwater! Maddafact, still is..), and could easily sell it for $1 a can or $20 a case..... never drank the stuff muhself, but definitely helped pad my trip costs. That was before pull-tab beers... remember the little pop-the-holes with your thumb that popped your thumb with the holes? Heck, remember 'church-keys' to open pre-opening cans? .... I don't think I wanna remember... was raised in a grocery store, can remember boxes of free church-keys under the counter given by beer mfg. co's, even have one or two laying around with the Coors logo.

There are those that don't buy into what society deams as a success.

There are meny ways to look at things. And "who" is qualifed to judge ?

The coors people supported grape growers over Chavez.
Coors people visciously fought unions.
Coors people in 60sand 70s notorious discrimination, wouldn't hire hispanics, blacks.
And coors used to subject his staff to lie detector tests to determine their loyalty. Loyalty to wtf?

Anywho, touting coors beer on a Mexican board is preposterous, coors brand is still hated by hispanics with memory of the civil rights protests,...
But given rise of trump white nationalism, not surprising... Make America great agin, go back to pre-civil rights era brewers, eh? No thanks!

Maybe you didn't see a previous post of mine. The Coors Light I'm drinking is brewed in Mexico, it's a Mexican light beer, brewed by Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc. I don't know what the contractual arrangement is between Coors and the brewery.

I usually drink Tecate Lite, it's a 3.2 brewski.

1.5% MEXICAN Lite beers. They're very good.

(Coors is about as mexican as DK guy!

Alcohol % by weight or volume?

AKgringo - 6-29-2017 at 06:57 PM

Alcohol content of beer in the US is measured in % by weight. Other spirits (including malt liquors) are measured % by volume.

Alcohol being lighter than water, a 3.2% beer is closer to 4% by volume. Just a little trivia!

mtgoat666 - 6-30-2017 at 10:42 AM

It appears that most of you just want a cheap buzz and a drink that fights the hellish heat.
Seeing how you are too cheap to drink good beer, i recommend you consider inexpensive alternatives like easy hot-weather mixed drinks gin and tonic, cuba libre, etc. this way you can drink cheap alc and easily adjust your alc percentage.

er, that would be gypped, with two p's

but you're right, it is 3.9% (by volume)

Good stuff isn't it? Similar to the Mexican Coors Light.

Both fine pilsner beers.
