Glad she had a good time. I guess I've been over hwy 1 so many times I don't remember any mountains that would be of any concern, curves yes.

She was hyper nervous, but I guess that might be normal for a first-timer (who is hyper nervous). Good to see that she finally figured Baja out.

She conveys so much admiration for what she found. What a great article.

Good read. Thanks for posting. I want to tell her to drive to Mexicali and go south. No mountains.

Pretty accurate.

Hard to believe she was stung by a ray. More likely a jelly fish.

She is a Baja Nomad and has been going to L.A. Bay for many years. We camped at Gecko with Marla when all our kids were much much younger!

Mountains. Big hills. Same same?
The climb out of santo Tomas valley, the climb south out of el Rosario,...
And about anywhere along the hwy the horizon includes a mountain.

Who knew that beer and ibuprofen were the ticket for stingray encounters!

It probably pays to be pre-emptive on this, most all the time. Just to be safe. :smug:

The article is dated July 2017 are you saying she did this trip several years earlier?

If so I guess that explains why she said the runway was dirt. It has been paved for several years.

The author writes as if it is her first trip to baja. Dk, are you sayin she has been many times before and the newbie angle of the article is misleading or fake?

Marla is a Nomad, she has been to Baja many times. Having small children and being single parents, we have been traveling amigos, too.

She traveled in the Viva Baja van with us in 2001 to Guadalupe Canyon Hot Springs. She wrote a nice article and included a photo of my daughter in one of the tubs. She attended a Pyramid Resort book signing event and we shared a suite. As I mentioned, we camped outside a cabin she rented at Gecko, L.A. Bay over a dozen years ago. Marla has also attended the Viva Baja parties I had about 15 years ago. Baja is not a new thing for her.

There was a dirt runway next to Gecko on Capt. Muñoz' property, maybe she was thinking of that? I doubt if she ever saw the paved runways at L.A. Bay.

Seems to me I read that article by Marla a long time ago. Wonder if it is a reprint?
