I don't have either but am interested if you are referencing the one outside of La Paz or on Bay of Conception?

If you are writing about Coyote Bay in Concepcion Bay, check here: Coyote Bay

More Coyote Bay last week...

Juan del Rio - 2-20-2005 at 04:40 PM

This is what I thought Baja looked like in 1963 when I saw these palms on an old Auto Club Travel Book cover on traveling to the remote area called "Baja California". I was hooked for life. Does anyone have a copy of that cover? Sure would love to see it again!

oh. thanks for the pictures.

The cover of the 1971 Sunset Travel Book to Baja California is a photo of Coyote Bay. I have scanned it, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to post it...and I'm supposed to be working now. Maybe I'll try later!

David K - 2-22-2005 at 06:48 PM

Elizabeth (and others) if you go to the Nomad Literature & Historic Interests Forum (here on Nomad), I have MANY older Baja guidebooks pictured... Here is the Sunset Guide, with the Coyote Bay cover...;)

Thanks David for the photo! I don't remember the one you posted but it still brings back memories. I recall seeing an old AAA photo or cover of Coyote Bay that was in Black and White that was in the sixties. Do you recall any????

David K - 2-23-2005 at 12:38 PM

Hi Juan,
Is this what you saw? It is a 1983 edition of the Auto Club Baja guide... showing El Coyote at Concepcion Bay.:light:

Juan del Rio - 2-23-2005 at 02:26 PM

Wow...that's it! I thought for sure it was in Black and White! I'd like to use the photos for a little update on www.juanyjuan.com with permission from you and a link to the Nomads site for my March "Home" page. Has nothing to do about San Somewhere, but I think most people could relate who view the site and make the trek from the east road over. Thanks again for the great, old time photos!

David K - 2-23-2005 at 03:37 PM

Juan as a fellow Baja Amigo, Baja Nomad, guest at Viva Baja-1, mutual friend of Carlos Fiesta, you may show photos from my web site... at yours!

Juan del Rio - 2-23-2005 at 05:33 PM

Thanks! Will try to get on the website this weekend...

Larry B, I have seen that photo before. It looks to me that that man has it all: the women, kid, dog, and the best spot. Life looks good from that vantage point.

I really like David K's magazine covers of Coyote Bay. All I need now is some sort of time machine to transport me back to that time when things seemed a little bit better. According to Jacobs Vehicle Systems website, the Jake Brake has been in use since 1961, so I will require a machine that is capable of time travel to the year 1960. I swear that the truck drivers try so hard and devote so much of their attention to getting the maximum noise output to the campsites below that it actually distracts them to the point of endangering themselves of running off the highway.

eetdrt88 - 5-22-2005 at 11:36 AM

to do nothing down there?I am currently a professional beach bum and the beaches are getting a little crowded for me here, which is inhibiting my do-nothing lifestyle and forcing me into doing things....which is exactly what i'm trying to avoid:o:o

bajajudy - 5-22-2005 at 12:45 PM

Ok. How many of us have camped under that clump of palms?

I have.

pompano,

eetdrt88 - 5-22-2005 at 04:58 PM

that statement was not directed at you or anyone....its actually the truth about my choice in career even though its not a very lucrative one:no::no:

Pompano,

Your next book should be "Rubbing It In" Coyote Style.

Any chance you knew of Herb Adelson ?
He was a sports announcer and radio personality in Fargo and vicinity for years. He is retired in Phoenix area. His daughter is an old friend.

Bob H - 5-25-2005 at 07:22 PM

If you look at the old photos and the first photo posted here, you will see that those palms are rotting away. One fell just recently and they are thinning out. Not nearly as thick as they used to be. However, the beach is still a fantastic place to camp! Oh, and have a Pacifico or two, etc.
