Group Moto Trip late January 2018

Hey all:

Reaching out from the SF Bay area. We are planning for our fourth trip down as a group. We will have about 25 riders this year. We normally trailer down to BOLA and do a loop south from there.

Last year we had one rider crash on the peninsula south of Bahia de Concepcion with a broken tib/fib. We got really lucky that one of the other riders had an inreach and that they were able to find a guy with a truck who helped with the extraction. We had him in Loreto in about 1.5hrs which we thought was pretty good. Also got good info here on finding crutches in Mulege.

Anywho, we are still planning our routes but wanted to reach out to see if there are any forums members who we could treat to dinner while we're down there in return for the favor of being available in case we have an emergency in your general location? Our group in general is mixed up of intermediate to advanced riders, but everyone rides within their limits and safety is a big deal so we don't expect carnage, but want to have a basic plan in place just in case.

Our trip will be the last week in January to the beginning of Feb. I'll post more info if there is anyone willing/able to be around at that time. Thanks so much, cant wait to be there!

Hoping to find some folks in roughly San Ignacio, Mulege, Loreto, Scorpion Bay as we will mostly be in and around these areas.

Best of luck to you 25 riders is asking for trouble. Try to make a lead rider out of 5 riders that always stay hang tight. Any one hot to go fast get hurt stop ride till they understand. Wish I could help but im in North baja. Just got back after driving 13 hours to rescue one broke down bike on moto trail. Stay Safe have a great time.

Thanks. Yes 25 is a lot, but we normally break up in to 4-6 in a group. Not everyone rides the same route each day. We just end up in the same place. Most are baja vets but several are riding there for the first time. We are trying to get it into everyone's head to ride at 50-60% and enjoy the ride safely. This isn't the Baja1000.

The tib/fib last year was a bummer that we dont want to repeat, plus I missed the second half of the riding because I stayed behind to help the gimp get back to BOLA. Thanks for the reply bajatrailrider.

I know I sound like a broken record on here, but why is there a need to bring such a large group of people? Baja is where you can find solitude. Why not just go with a friend or solo and call it a trip?

:cool: We are all riding solar powered hover bikes that make no dust or noise, and we wont even be noticed I'm sure. Seriously though, thanks to all who have replied and for the U2U messages. :bounce:

Spend a lot of money. Its makes it all better. I like they idea of splitting into small groups and meeting up each night. sounds fun. Enjoy.

It sounds like great fun! I think it is grand the likeminded folks ride together.

I can offer crutches if they are needed. Every time I go to the States, I go to garage sales and get some to donate to our village. The high school has 1 pair, the middle school has 1 pair and the local health center has 2.

We are in La Bocana, so not close to the towns it seems you will be going thru.

So, what I will do is buy some extra crutches while in the US in December, I will send one pair to Loreto, one pair to Mulege and 1 pair to Santa Rosalia. You should be covered. We can keep in touch and I will let you know where they are located.

Out of curiosity, only men or are women included in the moto group? I am way too scared to go but I have a friend who might love this trip and lives in Santa Cruz. Riding is her passion.

Hey thanks! I know where to find them in Mulege. The hotel we stay at has a pair. Also learned that many of the Segundas have muletas for sale.

It looks like you are relatively close to San Juanico. Part of our group almost always rides from Loreto to San Javier to Comondu and out to HWY 1 and then north to San Juanico. We are still nailing down our routes.

The group is made up of men and women, but we've locked down the group for 2018. We've been meeting monthly since June planning the trip dates, vehicles/trailer, drive teams, etc. Your friend could find us on the bayarearidersforum and plan to join us for the 2019 trip. In general its a trip for people who can ride most type of terrain (sand, rocks, etc) and we have only had single cylinder bikes. We also now have a requirement that new folks ride with someone from the group so we can feel confident in their skill set prior to the group being locked up.

This is a fantastic trip with skilled riders that are conscious of our impact. We do our best to be considerate and inject some $$$ into the towns we visit. Why enjoy Bala solo or with a few when you can enjoy it with 20 other excellent people? :bounce:

I'm one of the three females going in this group of ~25. Like men, women are always welcome assuming they can ride the terrain without issue, attend the group meetings, etc. She should definitely look us up on barf if she's interested in Baja 2019, we start planning the next year around June. Or feel free to pm me for my email and you can pass it to her.

For all I know, she might already be part of the group. She travels the world, literally, with her bike. Last international trip was to Italy (if
I remember correctly).

Right now she is in Taos - I have been following her ride the whole way from California....I don't ride but she actually makes me wish I did.

We are on the Pacific coast, exit to Abreojos (between Vizcaino and San Ignacio) and then north to La Bocana . Really far from San Juanico.

You are right, the segundas always have crutches! They charge a bit more but sure convenient.

I just had a GREAT idea!!! We should get ALL of these small groups of off roaders together and have a date set where we could set a group of at least 1000 off to the remotest prettiest places in Baja!! ALL AT ONCE!!! How about that!

As long as they all stay in san Felipe or cabo, and leave the rest of baja in peace, I am all for it.

Though I really prefer the knuckle draggers all stay in San Bernardino, riverside and glamis.
