advice on crossing border

hello! we're a family of 6 and my daughter and I (mom) will need to travel to San Diego to pick up a bike (which was stolen here, outside of Mulege - the bottom of the Bahia for the curious) for my husband (it was his bike which was stolen). we're in the middle of a year's trip and plan to hit the mainland after tearing ourselves away from the bahia.

anyway, I was wondering what you all would advise. I have the report from the registro civil stating that the bike was stolen (RC in Mulege) and plan to get a notarized letter from the notario stating that my husband gives me permission to take my daughter with me in and out of mexico. i have her and my tourist cards and her BC. I am going instead of my husband as he is prone to panic attacks and I speak Spanish fluently My daughter is coming with me because she is still very attached and nursing.

I HATE crossing at TJ - my main concern will be bringing the bike across the border in its box.

Any advice?

Plan is to take bus (and leave the trailer and van with husband and other 3 kids on the beach at the Bahia) to TJ. Take cab to border. Cross border on foot. Take public transportation to bike shop. Pick up bike. Cross border on foot and pick up bus to Mulege. We'll take a night bus from Mulege so I'm thinking we should be able to do the border crossing back and forth in a day. No?

Any advice? Warnings?

I'd much rather cross at Calexico but bike will be waiting in San Diego...
