Sat woes

Timo1 - 12-8-2017 at 06:07 AM

We recently arrived at our place in BA and we brought all the fixins
for satelite TV.
After a BUNCH of messin around I find out the LNB on the dish is
pooched.
My system is a Canadian Shaw direct.
Where oh where can I get parts down here for it ??

pacificobob - 12-8-2017 at 06:22 AM

there is a guy in todos santos who has them. let me know if you need his contact info.

Russ - 12-8-2017 at 06:40 AM

There is a good satellite guy in Mulege. Hugo 615-106-2746
Speaks English pretty well.

are you SURE the LNB is out...

I was recently told by my SAT guy in san diego
they hardly EVER fail

it could be something else
unless its really broken

woody with a view - 12-8-2017 at 02:42 PM

Will a fellow Canuckdian borrow you theirs to isolate the issue?

KasloKid - 12-8-2017 at 04:11 PM

There are two different types of LNBs.... Maybe you brought the wrong one?
Some info here: http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/11-shaw-direct-satellite/155...

Here as well: http://www.shawdirect.ca/english/support/article/8434/

He's done that. Works fine. Done all the right stuff and would agree that it is either bad or wrong LNB.

Timo1 - 12-8-2017 at 11:42 PM

Well I guess I don't need an LNB afterall.
I took the brain box to a friends house with the same system
and it worked fine (whew!)
I then borrowed their LNB and brought it home and the system worked.
I immediately put my LNB back on and I had TV....for an hour.
tomorrow I am replacing the cable between box and LNB because I don't think either would have an intermitent problem like a cable might.
Like Bob and Susan say....It either works or it don't (LNB).
I think I'm getting close now

I have one of those crimpers for the cable...
for the ends

you cant get a good signal with a bad crimp

That applies to more things than just TV, IMHO. ;)

Bob and Susan - 12-9-2017 at 10:33 AM

here is a question...

are you on the same SAT you were in Canada or are you aimed to a different SAT?

sometimes the system gets confused and you may need to call the Canadian company to change the primary SAY and shoot you a new operation code

Tim,
Best of luck getting the tv sparked up....I know how much you must be missing CNN

drop me a line when the hot tub is filled up

As Ken Kesey would say...."You are either on the bus or you aren't"...

Not supposed to have the unit outside of Canada. Suppliers of receivers and dishes won't even ship to anywhere outside of
Canada.

Got it !!!!

Timo1 - 12-10-2017 at 01:47 AM

After a load of frustration I finally have good TV.
I replaced the cable ends and still had no signal.
By this time I think I was at "plan" W.
I put away my sat. finder and went to my friends' house
who has the same system and just looked at where theirs was pointed
according to Asuncion Island and the elevation.
Came home and pointed mine to the same spot and guesstimated the elevation.

Low and behold there was a code update going on.
In my now scrambled mind, I figured they couldn't update the brain box
without a connection.
I knew I was on to something.
After waiting a half hour for the update to finish
There it was !!!!
Is
My life is complete.

As for bringing the box south, I don't know where the last poster got his info but I have been in communication with my provider from Canada trying to get the system figured out, They know full well where I am and never said anything about not bringing it here.
As long as we pay our monthly bill, they couldn't give a rat's pitoot where the box is.

Being from Kamloops, can we assume that the bunk beds are in the deep freeze so that Ged can sleep in a temp he's used to?
