Got two Arco stations that I have seen so for in beautiful downtown TJ.
Tijuaneros love the one on via rapida. It is so full it blocks traffic.

Any new Arco stations in margaritaville?

Yeah, same gas, but the restrooms are near-spotless, a selling point for some travelers.

We stopped at the "BP" station towards the south end last week, cleanest gas station I've ever seen in baja.

And I want to think these new guys pumps are not on the cheater list, though I haven't done a precision volume/price check yet.

I have had bad gas twice (back in the late 70s). BOTH times were after I got gas at Arco. Have NEVER used them since, and since then have never had a car stop from clogged fuel lines.

Is arco any cheaper than pemex in tj? They usually have the cheapest diesel in az.

well thats only part true....although it is pemex gasoline BP/ARCO uses a proprietary additive to allegedly burn cleaner just as the Chevron stations in mexico tout their excellent Techron additive.

The station operators have a standard biz MO of ripping you off by changing the pump calibration,... so do you really think station operators waste money buying the additives? You all are suckers! Station operators are scam artists, their business model is lieing and cheating.

I have now seen 5 ARCOs in Baja. Yes, they have clean restrooms, but their prices are no different than anyone else's.

Same with the BPs, which I have seen seven so far. Again, no price difference.

(And probably same gas)

they never promised lower prices, their business model is to offer competitive price gasoline with xlnt convenience stores, clean facilities and honest pumps.....from what I see they're a hit with the locals! :yes:

Perhaps they needed the ARCO in TJ, but in Tecate and Ensenada, both places have very little customers when I drive by their respective places.

Arco stations sell top tier fuel, gas and diesel, if that makes a difference to anyone.

The Top Tier designation is of a higher quality fuel than many of the independents. Shell and Chevron and some others qualify for this.

Freedom of choice is all of ours to decide. If I can buy diesel within a few cents of the non top tier stations, and I do, I will.

We are talking Baja here where the same may not apply.

Lets hope there is gas buddy app to help us with our choices in Baja. Being able to shop around when we are buying fuel is always worth it here in the states. Thanks to all here.

"top tier" is a trade mark by automakers to assure their cars will pass smog requirements...that's it

using that gas wont make your car run better

marketing is amazing how it affects buying habits

A LONG time back (late '60s) on the beach, I had a friend who worked at the Chevron refinery in El Segundo.

Having heard the OLD story that it was their second-tier gas that they sold to the independents, I asked that question.

And he said that they pumped the same gas into those independent's tankers that they pumped into their own.

"Top Tier" sounds good, though.

On a "similar" note, another friend was once offering to get me hired working for Firestone and he remarked that they were currently working a lot of overtime.

Producing tires for Goodyear while THEY were on strike.

A reciprocal deal the two had for whichever was chosen as a strike target.

As a diesel user, I always thought sulfur was good for the engine, bad for the air.

Hence my 6.0 will burn anything. In fact the cleaner diesel is not what I want.

I like it dirty.

I'm thinking Arco and BP stations are getting their shipments from the same tanker as Pemex.

All Arco fuel in TJ an a few others is from their US refineries. Soon they will have more stations and all will be US fuel. They are trucking it from the USA.

Why does anyone care about where the gas comes from? Its all bout the price isn't it? I'm with Ged on the Paki thing, They have every bit as much right as anyone to work and do business....

In the article it states that the 2 Arco stations in Tijuana are being supplied by tanker trucks crossing the US Mexico border. The shipment on the water is intended for the future 400 Arco stations.
