Best side x side ATV?

fishbuck - 2-10-2018 at 02:28 PM

I guess as part of growing up (old) I should sell my motocross bike (2006 CRF 450R) and get a cool little side by side that I can run around town in and out to the beach and stuff.
Best place to look for a cheapish side by side. SoCal I'm thinking.
I'm not really finding them on like ATV trader.
Wheelie-ing my way to the grocery store would be fun the 1st couple of times but after that I guessing 4 wheels is better.

Easy choice

That's an easy one.

They had me at the 1st blond. The rest was just rubbing my face in it.

with age comes a cage.....although Larry might disagree!

Howard - 2-10-2018 at 02:56 PM

How bad do you want one? Just go back to work for awhile or simply buy a side by side. Your choice is....?
Hope you enjoy your side by side. :))

This is my brother's. Fast as hell, like 80 mph.

buy a JEEP!!!

you cant do much with those little guys up where you are

chuckie - 2-10-2018 at 04:54 PM

No such thing as "Best" depends what YOU are going to with it..

Bajazly - 2-10-2018 at 05:00 PM

I am thinking the same thing and going back and forth between 2 seater and 4. 4 seats is more room for gear if its just a 2 person trip and more room for people visiting going around town. Race Dezert has a bunch but most are pretty spendy and probably beat on pretty good. I'm thinking one that has been raced and prepped every time for a good price. Saw one the other day for 10.5K and had all the goodies but I was a day late.

Ok, that water car is really cool

40mph, come on now. Rhino is for working a farm, not exploring Baja.

then why are you asking about side by sides :?:

fishbuck - 2-10-2018 at 06:48 PM

I mean I have my F-350 offroad 4x4 monster truck so I can get around but...
I think right now it says 8 mpg on it's gage. Best I ever did was 12 with a low 6.

But I will tough it in my f350 until I find me a little jeep for xploring around.
I still selling my Honda. I by something more baja appropriate when I figure out what that is.
Thank you for caring:coolup:

I have a really nice jeep scrambler, street legal rock crawler. I like it and have run every hard trail in cal with it, BUT I'm ready for a new four door with good air and heat! I have a 2017 Polaris 1000 rock and trail edition SXS, for running around in Baja I think it would be a blast but they aren't cheap, just under 20K for mine. I still wont be selling my KTM'S anytime soon especially if I lived in Baja! The SXS is more fun in the sand and can be has for 12-15 for a clean used one. Jeep's aren't cheap either but an older CJ-5 or a Suzuki samurai can be had for a decent price. I have a CJ-5 that was a good rock crawler in it's day but needs some TLC that might fit for what you want? Send me a message if you are interested.

bajatrailrider - 2-11-2018 at 08:49 AM

Don't even think of a Rhino I bought one last year. The engine is between the seats. Heat and Engine racket unbearable sold it after 6 months . I think the late Yamaha is good no drive belt to break. Standard shift trans maybe more reliable. Not given up my dirt bikes anytime soon. You may want to think about a better bike for aging rider then a 450r. May want to try a Estart 250 Enduro soft susp just hit the button to start low to the ground. I only ride my Wr450 once a month but my custom made CRF 230/254cc ride every week.

brucedog - 2-11-2018 at 09:00 AM

My .02 worth. I have a Can Am Defender 800. Seats 3 comfortably and has a dump bed in the back that hauls whatever...kiteboards, dirt, more people, you name it. It will go 50 mph but we seldom do. It wasn't cheap but half the price of the go fast ones.

advrider - 2-11-2018 at 09:15 AM

I agree with the rhino, several friends have had them. Under powered hot, noisy and they have a problem in the rear with the diff and frame where they have problems. The good is you can probably get one cheap. I would stay away from all or the highly modified stuff out there and get one with just the extras you want, not all turboed and tuned! We have more fun in our SXS then any other toy I have owned, the wife loves taking it out....

bajatrailrider - 2-11-2018 at 09:17 AM

I had the chance to drive a Can Am 4 seat . Amazing smooth ride and fun. Agree no need to buy the newer fast ones fun to just see the sights.

bajatrailrider - 2-11-2018 at 09:24 AM

100% right don't buy the SXS with many race mods as problems. Look at it this way the older SXS smaller wheels less power. So what the old ones go 50 mph the new ones 60mph. Less speed more sight seeing smell the roses. I may buy another one but need sell one of the toys as no room anymore for more.

Jeep Wrangler

bajaguy - 2-11-2018 at 11:04 AM

Will take you wherever you need to go.

Easy to repair, good for trips, parts available, fun to mod

bajatrailrider - 2-11-2018 at 12:43 PM

Ture on Jeeps there great. What is cool is the plush ride of a SXS it beats even my pre runner also rides better then even my bikes.

Howard - 2-11-2018 at 01:24 PM

Fishbuck, check your U2U

fishbuck - 2-11-2018 at 01:57 PM

Although I still like the side x side idea.
I think I have found what is right.
A 1992 Jeep Wrangler can be found for less than 4 grand
1st year of fuel injection so suppose to be better than a carb.

My 1st baja trip was riding in the back of a 85 CJ-7 with no top.
I spent about ten days and over 1000 miles in it. You can't ask for a better view.
There was that time when I had just swam in the in the Cortez for the 1st time.
I was standing in the back of the jeep in a towel. I was putting on dry shorts.
The "move out" command came over the CB.
The jeep jumped forward as the driver gassed it. I grabbed for the rollbar so as not to fall out the back.
I lost grip of my towel and the towel went flying out the back of the jeep.
And that is how I inadventantly mooned everyone in bola as we drove down the main drag with me standing buck naked in the back holding on to the rollbar for dear life.
Those were the daysâ˜ș
