thanks for your response.

i've used the decal and letter since 2006 and do feel that it is a great way to keep cops from bothering you. around that time, i crossed at notorious mordida tecate in the am and saw lots of motorcycle cops and some cop cars pulling people over.

i had the sindicatura decal on my cars drivers side back window and one on my utility trailer and i wasn't bothered at all. i did stop at every corner, full stop with a count of two so as not to get the dreaded " you didn't stop at the stop sign, which was across the street on the other corner ".

when i got to loreto driving fairly fast, i saw a cop pull out from a side street and started to follow me and i did slow down, but when he got closer, i believe he saw the sticker on my trailer and just turned around.

i have never been pulled over in seven round trips to los barriles from tijuana or tecate.

i am a great believer in SINDICATURA.

What's that saying, hard to prove a negative. Maybe
overdoing the stop signs, etc. has something to do with it

I have the sticker and was pulled over in Tecate last week with the officer claiming my fishing rods exceeded the length past the tailgate limit and needed a flag. He took my license & registration and I followed him to the strategically located police station, paid my 700 pesos to the "judge" and was on my way.

Well , sounds like the infraction was legit as the cop didn't try to get you to bribe him.

The stickers are ONLY meant for bogus tickets... They are not "get out of jail free cards"

I had 2 options....I opted for the police station. The infraction measurement relied on geometry as the rods were 7' in the air at the tip and it was difficult to determine the 30% past the vehicle measurement. I was very tired and in no mood to argue so I paid my fine.

Yeah, that is a legitimate violation. Glad they are cracking down on those fishing pole length violations. I was really getting tired of them working on actual crime prevention. LOL

Totally agree that it was a chickenchit ticket.

But in the OP he never mentioned that the cop tried to take a bribe...

It's certainly annoying to be ticketed for "violations" like this when at the same time, a truck goes speeding by at 110 km/h with a panga strapped over the cab, hanging ten feet off the back, AND with a bunch of 5-year-old kids bouncing around inside the panga.

On the bright side, in Mexico, they don't tend to randomly shoot people of a different skin color during routine traffic stops. So there's that, I guess.

Not getting shot by Mexican police officers could have something to do with the fact that most tourists are compliant and not aggressive toward the officer during the stop.
Just a thought.

Not sure if it's NOB (normal operating procedure) but I witnessed a Mexican guy wielding machetes vary aggressively at two cops and the cops didn't blow him away as an LAPD would have.

( Well they ended up blowing him away BUT that was AFTER he exchanged his machetes for a firearm.)

It takes only a split few second for a person with a knife to cover the ground needed to attack, while you are drawing from the holster. Anyone ever hear of the Tuller drill? Not sure on the spelling though..

In Ensenada, the same infraction is $150 Pesos.

Terry, I think Udo knows that Tecate is in its own municipality and was just comparing it with the Ensenada fee. Weird there is such a big difference for the same infraction.
