Junior stops by quite often now. In this series, he was looking in through the kitchen window for the longest time - I think he saw his own
reflection or he was hungry LOL
It was very foggy that day, quite unusual for La Bocana.
Cool. Have the lizards repopulated while he was gone?BajaBlanca - 4-19-2018 at 07:03 AM
You bet!caj13 - 4-19-2018 at 08:43 AM
I'm sure you know this, but look at his toes (or his print in the sand) roadrunners have 2 toes pointed forward, 2 backward on each foot. unusual
characteristic if you ask me. Must be an adaptation for combining speed with agility, given their hunting prey and technique - but i don't know for
sure!
That "zygotactylous toe set up - is a family characteristic for cuckoos.
so David - I guess its

That toe arrangement gave rise to some indigenous people's reverence for the bird. It's said that they thought it was magical because you can't tell
from footprints whether it was coming or going.fishbuck - 4-19-2018 at 07:01 PM
Amazing. I was worried. I very happy he's back. Thanks for the photos.fishbuck - 4-19-2018 at 07:17 PM

It's true.
I watched a documentary series when I was a kid. Seems roadrunners have the supernatural ability to outsmart coyotes that can read and order stuff
from a Company called "ACME".
It was extensively documented. True educational programming for children.BajaBlanca - 4-20-2018 at 07:04 AM
I never noticed the toes, how really interesting. I am going to hunt for toeprints the next time Junior visits.
Junior is REALLY fast and completely unafraid of Rex (our dog), it is amazing how he scampers quickly!fishbuck - 4-20-2018 at 12:22 PM
Don't let Rex read the ACME catalog. He will order all kinds of goofy inventions. But he will never catch Junior. Paco Facullo - 4-20-2018 at 12:32 PM

Poor Rex is getting up there in his old age ... hard of hearing, back legs failing him (typical for springer spaniels), slow to move anywhere any
more.
Junior is a handsome dude and just as well that he can just scamper past Rex - who continues snoring in his spot by the front door!Pappy Jon - 4-22-2018 at 07:17 AM
Are you kidding? I'm laughing my ars off.Howard - 4-22-2018 at 05:59 PM
Mazeltov
I’m presently in New Zealand where they have lots of bird life but haven’t seen a Junior yet. Lots of funky looking chicken like birds but no
roadrunners yet.CaboMagic - 4-22-2018 at 06:20 PM
Congratulations Blanca and Les on your family addition BajaBlanca - 4-22-2018 at 07:38 PM
One day Junior came strolling by with his new babe but I just couldn't get to the cell phone camera fast enough! Paco Facullo - 4-22-2018 at 08:02 PM
Ya, that's just the start.
Junior and his fine babe , then it's junior and his fine babe's.
Pretty soon you're overran with little Jr's running all over the place stirring up a ruckus... David K - 4-22-2018 at 08:59 PM
The days of rattlesnakes and scorpions in your yard are long gone thanks to Junior and his family!BajaBlanca - 4-23-2018 at 10:36 AM
Never thought about it David K but you are right about the scorpions. I have never seen one here at the house.
There are rattlers around town but I think in the 12 years we have been here, we have seen 2 anywhere near us. One was way too close for comfort
since it was hissing at Rex right outside our house!
