photography lessons - online ???????????????

With the mountains too dangerous, and the pacific beaches nice and cool, (why don't Mexican girls like bikinis,) beach photography lessons seem like a good idea. I was looking online for a tutorial, then said, the nomads know everything, why not ask them.

This is more of a question for the national parks crowd.

Are there any good sights for photography tips? Not just beach photography, but maybe star photos or night photos?

Before I read the responses, I am going for a week long hike, on an isolated beach, and yes, I have a little solar panel to recharge my camera.

Youtube. Hundreds of channels dedicated to it.

Best to pick what you are going to use to edit. Lightroom is probably the best. Look for tutorials on that.

Don't know what sort of camera you have but once you learn the camera setting and lens optics (depth of field, etc) I would devote most of my effort into composition (the art of photography).

Most beach photography these days used slower shutter speeds to suggest the motion of water. You'll need a tripod for such images.

I used to browse Flickr quite often - when I saw photos I like I would look at the shooting data. exposure time, f-stop time, etc. For good shore photos I highly recommend a tripod and a remote cord. As stated above composition is key, remember the foreground should start right where your feet end. the longer the exposure, the more water movement, I like just a few seconds, too long gives the foggy water look. Have fun and experiment, that is the beauty of digital photography!

There's an awful lot of instructive links and videos online. So much that they're almost useless because of the volume and because you often can't be sure if you've wasted precious time.

National Geographic posts many great images but they're not very good at providing instructions, other than basic stuff.

Most workshops just take you to photogenic places and are often taught by mediocre photographers who have good communication skills and the energy to fly around the world.

These are just my opinions of the pitfalls of advancing in the field.

IMO B and H provides free one hour lectures by knowledgable photographers that are worth looking at. There are many to chose from. This one is pretty good if you skip the first 15 or so minutes. Others can be googled "B and H landscape photography".

He goes over a lot of subject but I feel he covers well the traps that photographers fall into - documenting a subject without knowing how to tell the viewer how you feel about it.

Joerover, stunning photos, thanks for sharing! Speaking for those who have declining visual acuity, posting large on this forum doesn't help!

If I am home with a large monitor is one thing, but the travel laptop I use a lot, is only 13 inches. In order to read the text without difficulty, I have the size set to 125%. For me, photos over the 800 pixel limit detract from the usefulness of this forum.

I apologize that the software used over time is not keeping up with current standards for mobile-friendly viewing... the intention is changing platforms in the not too distant future, and utilizing responsive coding, with auto-sizing.

In the meantime, there is a quite varied audience here - with a quite varied collection of devices they use to access the board. With this in mind, I have requested that images be kept to 800 pixels wide. One only needs to utilize img=800x (and then the height adjusts proportionately with the 800 width. So no need for 800x600, etc.).

Attached photos auto-size here, with links to the larger images when that situation exists. I'm not promoting that however, as I suspect it will be one of the most difficult tasks in transitioning platforms is to maintain the attached images on their original posts. fyi

is not working I tried a lot of times and nothing.
What ever david printed worked last week, but it is gone off into cyber lost. I treid 5 or so times img=800x did not work. might need better instructions.

1) Click edit
2) in the tag at the start of the image link (tag is [img]) add to it so it reads [img=800x600].

I know Doug says you only need to add =800, but I have never had a problem putting in the x600 and have it not work. Of course, if you preset the photo hosting site to that size, it is automatic.
