Ratones Mar de Cortez

hermosok123 - 7-1-2018 at 07:24 AM

The motor thieves have done it again. My 20 foot Mako is now lighter as they took my 90 hp Yamaha and a 6 horse Mariner kicker. The boat is at Papa Fernandez camp just behind Willardguys' previously owned tin house. Gono Fernandez is on the case and I am sending him photos as they have located the motors. If you guys have not done it they want serial numbers and photos for identification. Pretty standard procedure with law enforcement. The thieves must be getting pretty hungry as they had to walk in and out almost 1/2 mile with the motors.

Oh man, there goes paradise. Sorry it happened!

SFandH - 7-1-2018 at 08:50 AM

I'm glad you got the motors back. Living by the Sea of Cortez and not having a boat would make me crazy.

Do you think the bad guys are locals or outsiders?

BornFisher - 7-1-2018 at 09:02 AM

Glad the motors were located. Glad no one was hurt or worse.
Makes me wonder if there may be a connection between your situation and the incident down in LA Bay.

willardguy - 7-1-2018 at 09:18 AM

thats one duro hombre to sling a 90hp motor over his shoulder!:o

hope all goes well!

This might have been a blessing in disguise. 90 horse on a Mako 20? Very underpowered. I have a f115 on a Mako 191 and want a 150.

hermosok123 - 7-1-2018 at 01:44 PM

Its a 19 footer and I don't have them back yet. They have been located. Remains to be seen if I need to get over there to grease the wheels of justice. With the election Gono is up in SF today to vote and will see what happens tomorrow. Wish I had stored photos on a cloud instead of a crappy camera that died. Don't think it was one guy, might have been but chemically enhanced.

This is happening too often now in baja. I have a place in Papa's this is the second break in in camp. The last break in the TV and tools where found under a bed at a
the fisherman's camp. I don't know about this but I am betting. I have watched the pongaderos pull a net in Gonzaga after a soak and not get the fish it took in fuel.
Your place is on the outside of camp and like jackels they feed on the fringe. With the closure in San Felipe and fish stocks down unfortunately this will happen more often. Very sad.
Not surprised that the some of the moters were found between the family at Papa's ,the federal check point and security at alphonsinas it is not a place for the stupid thief to get away.

He may have simply been trying to find a silver lining, per chance....

Glad your engines have been found, but very bummed that theft seems to be getting worse.

bajatrailrider - 7-2-2018 at 07:50 AM

Yes on that this year theft of phone lines three times this year. Right in front of my home for 6 blocks. Last time Cops at 3AM found every block very tidy rolled up cables. They did not find the guys. I asked Cop friend why for 10.00 Bucks of cable he said no 5.00 bucks.

Stealing phone lines right off the poles?

bajaguy - 7-2-2018 at 08:21 AM

The utility companies in Ensenada are posting signs on utility poles informing would-be cable/wire thieves that there are no copper lines/wires

We had all our electrical wired pulled out of underground conduit on our property in sleepy San Ignacio last year. The value is very little, but the cost to replace is significant. They also stole the bathroom sink. Go figure.

hermosok123 - 7-2-2018 at 08:42 AM

Will keep you posted on the progress if there is any. The cops were all voting yesterday so no traction on recovering the motors. Friend on his way today and should know what Gono needs from me to get the motors back. Friend from BV in Conception Bay says one of the motors stolen off a boat in Mulege turned up on an empty panga in Laguna Beach. Must be an elaborate system implemented for the expulsion of undesirable Gringo boat motors. Maybe if the motors are gone north the pinchy Gringos will follow.

I have seen 2 beached pangas in two weeks at crystal cove in laguna. pretty crazy, the first one was a couple weeks ago when the surf was pumping and must have been one heck of a beaching (of the panga).

Well some good news. Gono Fernandez and his brother were able to get the 90 back as they found it for sale in San Felipe. Had phony papers and all. Turned out some Vato named Ron from SF and south campos stole them and another motor on the same night from Papas. The cops wanted Facturas or dated photos so that might be the new norm to carry with you in Baja. I mean how many of us have that at this point down the road? I must definitely be behind the times.

Paco Facullo - 7-4-2018 at 04:23 PM

Also a good idea is to take photos on your phone and place in an email account.
I do this with my passport, also along with many other things.
