Hurricane John looks like it will affect southern Baja. It is very useful to travelers as well as locals who live on the peninsula to have local eye
witness reports of the storm.
Please post reports mentioning where you are and what weather you are experiencing as well as road reports if arroyos flood.
Please keep this thread on topic about the current storm.
Here in central Baja on the Pacside fishing pangas are being hauled out today in response to the predicted large swell. Today Buoyweather predicts
waves up to 19' which will certainly rearrange our beaches and cause some flood damage to properties close to the shore and low lying areas. Be

Bahia Asuncion is calm, partly overcast, 78 degrees, 72% humidity and the swell has begun to increase. Water temp at the beach I estimate is 68
degrees.

The wind/wave predictor I have a lot of faith in is Windfinder. They are predicting a wave height of "only" 11.5ft for Abreojos. When I plug Asuncion
into Windfinder, it gives me a very Windyty-looking interface. I've never seen it do that. Maybe that is its default interface for any region they

I have faith in Buoyweather as it is fairly precise for Bahia Asuncion as I look out my window day in day out...it changes frequently but is generally
right for our area. I look at several sites and look out my window....surf-forecast generally underestimates wind & swell for my front yard but I

Really windy here to day as forecast but I'm not sure John is the culprit. Fore cast for tomorrow much lighter winds. Hope BA is okay and not damaged.
My wind thingy is out but I'm guessing that we've had gusts to 25+ today. Patio furniture and door secured. Still 87º

looks like John will pass offshore so probably just a massive swell on the pacside. It just poured rain here for 10 minutes in a big rain cell but the

I find it astounding how we are so different than Asuncion weather-wise when we are only 1.5 hours south of you.
We had sprinkles of rain for such a little bit this afternoon. Barely enough to properly water my plants.

Here (La Aguja) at 7:30 AM we have very light mist. Had real gusty wind yesterday PM around 2:15 or so that lasted about 10 or 15 minutes. Then

Back in the day (70s) when we would transit the coast both north and south offshore of you and Shari it was mostly a given that there would be a
significant weather break as we got abreast of north Cedros. Now down by Abreojos if headed north you sometimes would pull in south of Razors or the

Here in this part of the East Cape (~10km south of Los Barriles), things are pretty mellow. Some rain yesterday along with a bit of wind. Calm
today, but a big shower early this morning; seems to be clearing overall. John looks to be weakening (or not strengthening anyway) and headed well
out to sea.

"Big waves" I'm wondering if any of the surfers are getting some good waves out of this storm. What's the sea surface like? Chopped up or smooth?

It rained pretty good here in Pescadero between 5-7am. No rain since. Lightning flashes over the Mtns during the night! Surf is only 3-5ft,

same here in Asuncion....a red tide moved onshore this afternoon and it is awful....sure hope it doesnt affect the abalone!!! I am going to cover my

Blanca, Shari - don't know if you have heard about this, red tide has been in the news lately:
well high tide has come and gone with minimal damage...one panga that wasnt pulled up high enough flipped over and they pulled pangas up higher after
that...photos tomorrow.
Just before dark we could see big dark clouds coming our way and a breeze is picking up from the SE now...gonna be a long windy/rainy night I imagine.

Here are some scenes from around town of the big swell last evening at high tide and this morning. Fortunately John passed far enough offshore to
create a big 15' swell, an hour of rain and strong winds but not enough to cause damage....whew. It was a good dress rehearsal for what may come.
We will start our Hurricane cruise with Rossman standing in the splash zone out by the cooperativa here at the point.
then on to the Y where these pangas had to be pulled much higher up to the road just after I took the photo...the swell was only about 10' at the high
tide Thursday night and was to get up to 15 later at night.
there would be no fishing halibut off the pier
there were lots of spectators...a wave came over the bank just after I took this and they had to move the bench back!
i took this from the Beach House deck
the waves breached the berm and water was pouring into fill the lagunita which happened 4 years ago and gave the kids a safe place to swim all year
long.
Baja Gypsy was our chauffer and Rossman was her copilot for the storm tour.

today it looks like a washing machine out here at the point with waves coming from different directions wrapping around the Island.
About 10 at night the wind started to howl and it rained like a banshee for an hour or so and then the skies cleared and only some lightning was left!
Whew....dodged the bullet once again but it was a good dress rehearsal for what may be coming down the pipe next month!
