We really liked Santiago the two times we have gone.
The zoo is extensive, and is the only one in Baja Sur. Not state of the art but animal friendly as far as I could tell.

The zoo was closed last August, but maybe that was a seasonal thing and not permanent.
I first toured the zoo in 1985 and was fascinated such an attraction existed. When I visited the zoo in 2001 with 'jeans' she was driven to tears at
seeing the condition and cramped quarters some of the animals were in, especially Leo the lion. Through her efforts and fundraising, the injured lion
was treated, and I think transferred to a better place?
