Hello all!

Last month, a plant lady named Laura from Guerrero Negro visited me. I hadn’t seen her in years and asked what was going on. She said that her son Ignacio had been born deaf and that he was a handful. He is now 5 and it was only when he was 2 that they found out he was deaf. He is their first child.

Laura told me that against her husband’s wishes, she had taken their son Ignacio to a hearing clinic in La Paz. She showed me the video of him being tested at the clinic. It is moving how he grabs her face when he hears something for the very first time in his Life.

Both she and her husband decided to work really hard and save the $32,000 pesos this hearing aid.

After seeing them work so hard these last couple weeks with promoting their plants (and I bought plenty!!), selling food on weekends and selling other household items (I donated a baby carriage), I have talked it over with Les and will have two raffles to raise money for them.

This is your chance to (re) visit us at a super price!! We are offering 4 days for $40. That is a $120 dollar savings and the chance to do a great thing, who could ask for more?!

Please pick a number from 1 to 20. All deposits will have to be made at a Wells Fargo in the States or mailed to my Mom or at my banamex account here in Mexico. Sorry, no paypal at this time.

The raffle will be a la Mexico style since we are in Mexico: all 20 numbers go into a bag and one by one the numbers are eliminated until the LAST ONE. He/she is the winner. I will take photos/videotape the event if I can.

There was a guy that helped out with the Lions club in La Paz and Coco. The lions do: eyes, ears, and limbs all around the world, maybe they could help? Shriners are in TJ any contacts? Please jump in here with ideas and cash!!!! DK, you in for a number? JZ how about you?

When I talked with Laura and her husband weeks ago, they said they are not interested in operating but wanted this aid because it is external.

When I surprise them with this money the next time they come visit (I think it will be the 8th), I can run the idea of shriners etc. by them.

Actually, perhaps I will have them pick the numbers....I think I like that idea!

I also did write, as MMc suggested, to a wonderful guy involved with helping Bajans get replacement arms - legs etc. to see if he can get his group to come up with more funds. My dream is to cover the expense of the hearing aid 100% so that the family can use the cash they have saved for schooling and battery replacements for Nachito or simply take a breather. For weeks now they have been starting their day at 6 am selling food around Guerrero Negro. If they are selling at 6, that means they have been preparing the food since at least 4 am.

The day Laura comes will be the last day of the raffle!

and DRUM ROLL, I called Laura and asked her to come on Thursday. Since they are in G Negro, she said they didn't have the cash for gas and I offered to pay for it. She still had to talk it over with her hubby, but I am guessing that they are coming!

The raffle is going to be a surprise. She will pick the winning ticket but the whole idea is to give her all the cash we have so far. She has written that she is a bit disappointed that her plant sales have not been high...she really wants her son, Nachito, to have this hearing aid. She is going to be blown away.

It was a wonderful morning yesterday - I have video of the whole event and have asked my son to upload it for me. I am challenged and could not do it LOL

Here is the set up -books on the left to donate to a new bookstore that opened up in G Negro, the hat has all the numbers and names in it, the shell box next to it has the cash from the raffle!
