Greetings,
I was planning ahead to spring break with my daughter. I am a teacher and we both, miraculously, have the same week off this year. I was thinking
about planning a trip to Baja to the lagoons for some whale watching. We see a lot of whales here in Morro Bay, but I want her to be able to pet
one!!!
Is that too late for the babies in the lagoons? I remember I went once in mid-April and it was too late. We saw some whales, but it was like a bad
local day whale watching. I am not looking to just see a couple whales, but I want to be there during a time when we have a chance to have some close
interactions with them.

Hi Steve....I recommend going to San Igancio in April as the season there is later than OJo de Liebre. But make reservations soon as they fill up
fast. You will have great encounters there in April....but please dont make the trip about touching whales....try to appreciate the honour of just
being around these sentient beings in their natural habitat....then you wont be disappointed if you dont touch one.

Thanks Shari...that's great info. Oh, I know about that, but when we went to Ojo de Liebre in mid April all we saw was a few adults blow off in the
distance. Too far to go for that kind of encounter that I can have 15 minutes from my door
Don't need to pet one, but the several times I've been around the babies they are always very curious and get very close to the panga,
even if you aren't able to touch them

OJo de Liebre is the main calving lagoon so it fills up first with whales who are anxious to give birth in the safety of the lagoon....and then the
overflow go to San Ignacio & Mag Bay where the whale seasons begin later and last longer.
Most of the whales we make friends with begin to leave OJo de Liebre in mid March. Whales heading northbound do stop into the mouth area to rest but
they aren't as approachable as our "friends".

I've been to several locations & my preference is mid-March when the babies are less timid. Been there in February and they are more timid. This
year I'm going farther south to Bahia Magdalena (less tourists).
