latest from San Ignacio military checkpoint

apparently they have been squelched again. We were prepared today for a shakedown as from another recent bad report. We went in politeness and pleasantries and were prepared to grease them with bottles of coke........they responded with pleasantness, didn't even ask us to get out of the car.....and there was a sign that read. "if you feel you have been treated fairly call this number". seems as though another recent complaint had results.....so am passing along this good report!

South or North bound?

Not San Ignacio, but kinda related. The military check point north of Loreto was closed when we went through to the airport from our place in Punta Chivato this past weekend. (1/12/19)

Just drove from Loreto to San Quintin today. Regarding the military checkpoints: North of Loreto was closed and abandoned. San Ignacio waved us through without any inspection. What I call El Tomal, north of Jesus Maria did not inspect the cab, I got out opened the door to my camper shell, they just looked in and said go ahead! El Rosario we were waived through, no inspection. Everyone very polite. Kind of pleasant experience today.

We went both south and then north again 2 hours later, last Monday, 1/14. No issues either way.

Been through about 10 times in the last 2 years. Never had a problem.

Never had a problem at any check point. Have heard stories.

I think DK is only nomad that has told a first-person story, and that was because he spilled a bag of weed on the floor of his truck and he was too high to clean it up adequately before the military inspected his truck.

I hope people call the number and report good treatment, that may help insure it will continue?

My experience through the San Ignacio checkpoint southbound was not good on 1/9. The soldier went through my tackle box and held up a lure and said it was a nice one. “Did I want to give it to him?” That he liked it. I said sure grudgingly. As he left the camper I saw 3 lures in his hand. I said uno! And he gave 2 back. Lovely.

However, the northbound stop on 1/16 was good. Just a cursory search and I’m on my way quickly.

All of the other military CPs have been alright.

I did make a complaint and a compliment to the commander of the SI checkpoint via email.
