Any Good Food from El Rosario to Guerrero Negro?

TLBaja79 - 1-20-2019 at 02:51 PM

Does anybody have any good restaurants from El Rosario to Guerrero?

I've stopped a bunch of times and have yet to find a place I'd go back to, usually just bring food for that stretch

In El Rosario, Loncheria El Faro for breakfast, lunch, or dinner. In Nuevo Rosarito, Mauricio's. In Villa Jesus Maria, Tortas La Casita by the gas station.

There are a couple of places to eat in Catavina. I think the food at the hotel is good as well as Rancho Santa Ines. Some say the place across from the hotel is good too, I've never eaten there. But then to each his own, different people different taste.

I agree with DK. I like Mauricio´s in Nuevo Rosarito. they serve the best machaca this side of the Paralelo 28.

Tried twice the place past the tope in Punta Prieta, Restaurant Melany, food it's ok, but the deal breaker was the service, they were rude and with a lousy attitude. Never ever I was treated so bad anywhere in baja, even at malarrimo where the waiters will ignore you even if you´re the only person there.

And don´t get me started on Mama espinoza. I´ll never go back there even if the food its free.

The area is pretty remote, it's mostly truck stops and roadside diner type places,... dont expect gourmet eats.

I like the breakfasts at Paulina's in Jesus Maria (across street from Pemex)

Catavina la pinta hotel has good food (sometimes they put out a buffet when they have big group, I dont like the buffet, but the regular choices off the menu are good).

The new C-store at Catavina has a grill that does OK burgers and more.

Couple good places in El Rosario, I like Mi Casita.

A few good places in GN, I like Malarimos.

Is it all the same owner? I didn't know that if that's the case!

The Rodriguez family of Los Pinos tomatoes in San Quintin owns Rancho Grande at Gonzaga and bought the Desert Inn (La Pinta) hotels at San Quintin (Santa Maria) and Cataviña.

Best I've had in Guerrero Negro is the restaurant attached to hotel Don Gus. Top notch service and excellent food. Tried many in GN.

I vote for the hotel in Catavina. Used to love the fish tacos across from the Pemex in Jesus Maria but they burned down years back and I don't know if they reopened in a new location.

Las Pasaditas in El Rosario

thebajarunner - 1-30-2019 at 09:51 PM

Detour to LABay and have fish tacos off China’s stand

Definitely learning a lot from here. Thanks for the recommendations!

By the way, new guy here as well. Whenever I’m taking a break from this particular interest, I’m usually found at home, watching my Pomeranian relax in his cooling dog bed while watching TV with the wife and kids. Such a simple, yet, happy life. Have a nice day!

Huevos Rancheros at Laguna Chapala------ YUMMMMMM!!!!!

Rancho Santa Ynez makes some great tacos dorado with ranch meat. In my opinion the ambience there is much better than the Desert Inn in nearby Catavina.

The question being posed does not include El Rosario or Guerrero Negro, but of locations in between. I think that's what he means.

I had the chiliquiles, and it was good, but served with instant coffee!

Rancho Santa Inés was convenient, but their bean burritos were very salty. The dinners and Saturday morning buffet at Motel Santa Maria in Cataviña were excellent as were the drinks.

A few years ago, they used to rave about the machaca and eggs at Laguna Chapala here on Nomad... So, Baja Angel and I stopped there just for that... and yes, it was instant coffee!

The machaca was not worth the stop... that year, Primo's La Bocana Beach Restaurant in El Rosario (now the Sinahi Restaurant) had really good Machaca.

The fish tacos at the grey whale truck in GN are hard to pass up for me.
