As seen in this article from El Universal, AMLO has apparently followed through on a campaign promise to cancel the Los Cardones mine project in the Sierra Laguna mountains.

Is this the large mine you see heading down 5 past La Ventana?

No, this one is in the Sierra La Laguna which is between La Paz and Cabo San Lucas.

The folks of Todos Santos (and other places) feel that modern mining practices will somehow be as bad or worse than how they mined silver in the 1800s and don't want the economic boost because polluting the groundwater could negate any advantages.

Wonder if he'll squash that phosphorus mine project off of San Juanico. Last I heard, they were appealing and still trying to get their permits.

Polluting groundwater would certainly seem to negate any advantages!

The location is a Biosphere Reserve. Does one company's monetary profit override all other factors? I would assume the local people would know what's best for them.
