Two caravans head north towards the border....

We had two caravans of vehicles heading north last Sunday at the same time. One group of 20 vehicles diverges at Mex 3 to cross Tecate in 1.5 hours. The other group of four vehicles continues towards San Ysidro, and does not get across the border until 6.5 hours later.

Reportedly, border vendors were having to deliver gas to vehicles who ran out while waiting in line.

There has always been some discrepancy in border wait times at specific crossings, but this difference of five hours feels arbitrary.

It appears as if these recent border "theatrics" are now unnecessarily and negatively impacting the lives of law abiding Americans under the guise of border security.

I'm no sure how 24 cars would back up traffic at two different crossings? Sorry but you lost me here. Are you saying people from Central America? An entire caravan in 20 cars?

There was an article earlier this morning (since taken down) about greatly increased wait times at ports of entry due to tRump moving a great many agents from the ports to work his 'emergency' immigration burdens. So if you're headed Stateside you better have your shirt together.

I could be wrong, but I took it to mean two groups of motorists traveling together got caught up in border congestion caused by increased security.

It seems that 'Caravan' has taken on a new interperatation since immigrants started flooding the border.

I read the caravan of driving visitors/tourists (?) split up past Ensenada. 4 cars went to San Ysidro crossing and waited 6.5 hours. 20 cars went to Tecate and crossed in just 1.5 hours.
This is not too bizarre as Tecate is nearly always much shorter than Tijuana's two borders. I bet the 4 cars that split off from the majority we're sorry they did?

And yes Mr. Oceanus, ever since the shenanigans started at that fatidic border the wait times have increased.

while that Ca. gas prices are ahead of Baja. I could be off a bit, but I
believe reg. gas in Baja is $3.66 a gal? Is that about right? Saw reg. this morn
here at $3.89

I drove up the central valley after a 20 minute Algodones crossing on Tuesday and regular unleaded all the way up was mid 4’s per gallon. The travel center truck stop places were a little less but the last couple weeks gas has gone stupid. Is it just Semana Santa or did the Wall Street oil dorks decide it was time to crash the economy again? Are we headed for 5 plus dollar a gallon gas again for no good reason?

I was fortunate to grow up in Ca. when living was easier, fortunately approaching the time to hang it up. Ca. recently passed
the UK as the 5th largest economy in the world, so something
is going right, although glad I'm not just graduating High School
and want to continuing living here, that would be a challenge

Heading north to the border at Tecate several weeks ago I unfortunately got caught behind a caravan from San Quintin to Maneandero....While watching others taking crazy risks trying to pass this clot on the road, I understood what frustrations led to taking such risks.

Caravaning RV's in large numbers is likely somehow comforting to folks who have a need for such "protection", but is rather inconsiderate when thinking of others on the road.

They are a bigger risk than bicyclers ...who get all sorts of flak here

Why don't caravaners gather in smaller groups?

I don't get the whole caravan thing if you're going to get together with other white strangers from the US or Canada to travel to Mexico, because you have a underlying fear of Mexico.

What do they do circle the wagons( RVs) when danger approaches? Perhaps they should stay home, and visit "Taco Bell" to get their Mexico fix.

Regarding the long lines at the border and the central American caravan problems.

That's the US President's fault, for exasperating the situation with his tough talk on building walls, and unilateral( illegally) trying to change immigration law/policy without congress.

So now crossing the US border is at a 12 year high during the Trump Administration.

Great job you're doing Trump. :lol:

I crossed in the SY regular lanes on Wednesday, got in line at 10:30 AM, finally through about 12:20 PM. I seem cursed to always have close to two hours whenever I try to figure out a faster time of day to cross. Now I've just resigned myself to a two hour wait. Don't let a known hassle spoil the wonderful times that went before.

Does anyone remember the California air quality in the 1960s? that was before those liberals made those awful regulations. with any luck president pooter-grabber will roll back those socialistic, oppressive laws and we will once again be able to see what we are breathing! a clean, healthy environment is part of a liberal ,commie agenda! 92,000 apprehensions at the southern border last month. This doesn't count the number that get through. Any you think this is not a problem?

Money. More RVs, more profit. No way around them. Even if they've been coached to stay up with the pack, they spread out on long stretches. San Quintin to Maneandero will be brutal for anyone following.

My RV has been side swiped by an RV but I've never been behind one.

There are just a few companies who specialize in these trips -- I sometimes check their schedule going S/N and it's online.

That's three times as many as the previous years month.

It looks like a Trump caused problem and of course Trump won't take the blame but instead will scapegoat his own DHS Secretary, who now has to live in disgrace because she oversaw the policy of separating children from their parents and then putting the children in cages.

John, have you thought about getting a Sentri card? I crossed the other day and it only took me about 2-3 minutes in the Sentri lane. There was maybe 5-6 cars in front of me. Getting a Sentri card was the best money I've ever spent!

Yes, I do remember the thick disgusting smog of the the 1960's and 70's. Near Riverside while getting gas we asked where the fire was - guy replied that was how the air was EVERY DAY. I for one am happy to pay more for gas if the result is cleaner air.

I grew up in the San Gabriel Valley in the 60's. I do remember not being able to go outside to play at recess because SMOG. I like it better now. Anyone who thinks we don't need regulations is ill informed. California is not for everyone but it is for me. Viva AQMD!
