Spring break crowds

We had intended to head south to, maybe beyond, San Felipe mid week next week. Then I realized, egads, the middle of spring break - and maybe it isn't such a good idea.

Are the south campo areas just as crowded? Gonzaga better?

Or, stay home another week or two? Our intent is to camp on the gulf.

Advice?

Shell Island will be a dream spot for you guys as it always is for us! Km. 26. Of course, being an island, lunar high tide may cover the road.

Spring break is no big deal but next week is Semana Santa and you might have to share the beach. I'm guessing Gonzaga Bay will be packed. Stay home if you can and let them enjoy their beaches.

if you don't want to share in the festivities theres no shortage of empty beaches......go and have a great time!

willardguy is spot on with the laughing face. San Felipe will be a zoo, and Punta Final has been in the past, I'm at home now in Punta, will let you know what happens, it won't be good.

If San Felipe, is going to be a Mexico hot spot for Spring break, where are all the tourist board advertisements to the US colleges to bring them down to San Felipe?

I don't see San Felipe, on the map as a top 10 destination anywhere for bikini clad girls in 2019. Are hotels booked solid in San Felipe and prices raised during this Spring Break?

I do see the usual warning about Mexico, that will have some parents telling their kids not to go to Mexico during Spring Break, but what kid listens to their parents?

Rosarito, used to be a nice Spring Break destination but for years now it has been another Spring Break, ghost town, but at least we see ads for Rosarito. San Felipe, not so much.

Joe, Spring Break is also Semana Santa, a time when families vacation on beaches... The ones not filled with drinking kids you seem to know about...

San Felipe will be packed with families from Mexicali and other places. The only hope for John M is to lower the tire pressure and use 4WD on his Tacoma to escape the crowds at beach Campos and go to Shell Island where few do because it isn't easy to get to.

Just what I had hoped for.

Luckily Shell Island isn't our "only hope" - so, if we change our thought of a camp on the beach, maybe head to Mike's instead - Pretty far from the Sea of Cortez,

It's the loud obnoxious American drunk college kids most families don't want to be around.

When you hear the words spring break you think of loud college kids descending on a beach location, not Semana Santa.

We were in SF just two weeks ago and it was just like Semana Santa. They were all set for big off road race.

Last year we came through there on Semana Santa itself and it was a great cultural experience: Vendors, Mariachi bands, and all the people camped tent to tent on the beach, and the boats hauling water weenies loaded with kids. It was great to see all the people having fun.

You should embrace the experience.

We are down here all week for our kids Spring break. It's always the week before or after Easter. Crossed yesterday at Tecate about 5pm and there were very few cars.

Willl let you know what we find out. I use to go to San Carlos on the mainland a bunch over Semanta Santa, and the little town would swell from 5K to 30K. It couldn't possibly be that bad down here, I hope.

Completely unaware of the fact that Semana Santa trumps anything remotely related to the vastly reduced observance of Spring Break by American college kids in Mexico. That was 20 years ago, Bloe.

Nice try to discredit me Hook, but if you look at the title of John M's post he said, " Spring break crowds," He didn't say anything about " Semana Santa, crowds.

Let me give you a definition of Spring Break, from the "Urban Dictionary, and what most of us think when we hear the words of spring break.

Again when you hear someone say "spring break," most of us think of rowdy American obnoxious drunk college kids, and easy American girls with skimpy bikinis descending on an American or Mexican tourist destinations, and are often not welcomed by the locals.

No Hook, Semana Santa, does not also fit the same definition as spring break, unless you hate Mexican families, and want to keep away from them too, or all crowds.

Spring break is way boarder then college kids. All elementary, middle school, and HS kids have spring break. It's a big travel week for families. Our school district is always the week before or after Easter. We've taken a trip every spring break for the last 10 years.

On the mainland, San Carlos gets 30K+ extra ppl in the town for Semana Santa. It's rowdy as hell. What is typically a 5 min drive through the town will take up to 2 hrs on Friday and Saturday before Easter.

I do not think San Felipe is much of a college spring break destination these days but it can get really crowded during semana santa. Thousands of people from Mexicali go there. We rolled in there several years ago, unknowingly, every hotel was full, every campground was packed, the only lodging in town was a space in a hotel parking lot surrounded by drunken Hispanic people playing music at full volume. Ended up driving to Ensenada to get a room. It is more of a Mexican holiday than a gringo time. May be less crowded if you go farther south and get away from town. Rosarito used to get a spring break crowd, girls walking the streets in skimpy bikinis, music thumpin, booties bumpin, but not sure it that is the case any more. It can be a little chilly in Rosarito in the spring.

As far as Semana Santa goes, I once pulled into San Francisquito during Semana Santa and there was 2 school buses there, and several vehicles. There was at least a hundred kids and wall to wall tents set up on the beach! They ended up being from Guerrero Negro...

You should see the beach south of La Fonda (La Mission). Cancun has nothing on that beach!! Didn`t Pompano post some pics of Conception Bay over the break one year?

Ok. My bad. Let me rephrase then. It’s over my school(csusm), vista unified school district, SDSU, Mira costa, Miramar, Palomar. Sorry. Just assumed they were all done as everyone I know just finished it up. And it was glorious.

Everybody minds, as long as the plan is using the beach. Unless one is completely drunk to the point that he doesn't notice anything and anybody around. Beaches will be packed during Semana Santa - spring break is in grade schools too, let's not forget. The OP wants to camp on the beach.

Beside the mere fact of crowds - Mex families can be pretty darn loud during fiestas. They do drink on holidays, enjoy BBQ with mucho serveza, and love loud music and fireworks. Though they usually cut-off a few hours earlier than Americans, I'll give them that.
