Big Dawgs vs. Little Dawgs

My wife & I help support a rescue in San Quintin (Refugio para Mascotas Good Boy) and we transport dogs north to be adopted. Lily was in a batch of 6 dogs and wasn't doing well in the cage so Deb kept her on her lap for the whole journey. Lily has joined our pack now....

This is Charlie Brown, my vicious attack dog/copilot. He loves the water but is not particularly fond of off-roading.

The first pic is from when I took him down to Cueva del Pirata when he was just a baby. The second one is from my last trip. I stayed in La Paz for a couple days at the Hotel Yeneka.

Funny story. On the way home from this latest trip, I decided to just drive as far as I could that night because it was going to be raining everywhere the next day and I just wanted to go home. It got dark right at Guerrero Negro but I kept on driving, carefully.

I stopped about a half hour later at the side of the road to take a discreet pee break. Charlie jumped on the armrest to see what I was up to and just happened to land on the door lock. Thanks, buddy. The keys were in the truck and the windows were up. It was very cold and I was wearing a short sleeved teeshirt dress. I'm trying to stay calm but it's really cold and it's dark and I'm on the side of a Mexican road. After a bit I realize there is nothing I can do with what I have, so I decide to try to get someone to stop and help me. A big rig pulls over and I'm hoping that it's not some sleazy guy or serial killer or some such.

A very nice young man and his 9 year old son get out. We try a few things but nothing is working. All of a sudden a light goes on in his eyes and he pulls out this gigantic ring of keys and picks one. He sticks it in the lock, jiggles it about for a bit, and voila! the door unlocks! Saved! Not murdered! Made it home without hitting a cow in the dark!

So that was the time my dog locked me out of the truck.

Paco is a Mexican Shephard.... really. He's made the trip so many times he knows the stops as well as we do. Loves to run....while I ride the bike, loves the water....up to belly deep..... and he loves Mexicans! hahaha

This my dog “Brian”. The picture is taken at Alstrom Point, overlooking Powell Lake. It is a sweet spot, highly recommended.

Zeek the Tijuana Street Dog

Zeek is a street dog from Tijuana. So many times people will ask me "What type of breed is that"? I respond "He's a Mexican Pedigree". They respond "I have never heard of that breed before." I respond, "They are super rare".
He is a great dog!

I've been meaning to post a story about how we adopted Moca (short for Molcajete) from Shari in Bahia Asuncion last March, but just have never gotten around to it. Suffice it to say that she is now a wonderful member of our family, and she brings us great joy. Sometimes I think she misses those dead fish meals on the Baja beaches, but she has a pretty good life here in northern California.

Naaah.... Medium Size translates to 13-15 pounds. Just small enough to pick up and carry, small enough to not crowd the bed, snugggly with momma when she's feeling sick.
IMHO

Here is Luna, a street rescue from Manzanillo, Mexico. Rescue dogs always seem to know how sweet life is with a family. Oh... and Luna rescues us every day:

Found this little dog (Dec 2013) in the trash dump here in Centenario, and called her Centa.



Took her first with me to Los Angeles, but our German Shorthaired was not impressed.....



Since then, Paloma joined the team here in Centenario. Obviously, none of them had anything to do with this blanket destruction.....
