Episode 5: Trail of Missions Recon 2019 (Playa San Bruno, Bahía Concepción, Volcán Trés Virgenes)

David K - 9-12-2019 at 04:03 PM

In this final episode of our recon trip, see Bahía Concepción and Mark & Olivia's Playa Buenaventura restaurant plus we go to the geothermal plant at the Trés Virgenes volcano and visit the eco-lodge there.

Cameron also shows some of the scenes involving the camera guys (Sasha and Jimmy), the number of takes to do an intro or break, and what a little of what Baja means to me... then a look at a future project...

It shows some of the passion that Cameron and I share for the wonders of Baja California. Ever since his first Trail of Missions (2014) he has come to me for ideas and location assistance plus using my book. Many of his location ideas came from my Baja Bound Travel Adventure articles, as well: https://www.bajabound.com/bajaadventures/bajatravel/

DK - I've become increasingly aware of both of your efforts as I've transitioned from appreciating Baja as a fly-in tourist to more of an overland explorer and really dug into researching off-road options. It's really cool to see the two of you working together on projects.

Thank you. If I can assist you with travel suggestions or details, just ask! El gusto es mio.

...so I did some digging on Google Earth on your descriptions of some of the earlier days of the recpn trip and put together these routes to Mission Guadalupe de Huasinapí and Cueva de San Borjita (see pic below). ...and hey I figured out how to downsample and crop to get below the photo restrictions...

Now I'm trying to find the area where the San Bruno ruins are. Google Earth / Maps keeps pulling up the San Bruno between Punta Chivato and Eijdo San Lucas. Is this the right area, or should I be digging elsewhere for another San Bruno?

Found it. Realized there's a second San Bruno to the S. This is quite near one of the beaches we're planning to camp at for a couple of days so I'll likely get a chance to hike up to check out those ruins.

Good job.
All the mission site GPS data is in my book as well as on my web page: www.vivabaja.com/missions4
