Not my trip. My brother sent this image of his girlfriend. Taken two days ago in Seoul. I am struck by the dress and colors. Trudy was a child when she was airlifted out of Saigon at end of the war.

During the Viet Nam period, there were approximately 55,000 US troops in South Korea (including me). In an exchange of mutual support, there was a similar sized contingent of South Korean military serving in Viet Nam!

I am sure there were a lot of other Vietnamese who established ties with Korean troops, and emigrated to South Korea when they withdrew their forces.

I have been two times as a tourist with a Korean friend. Would love to return. Fantastic people, city and food.
Went to DMZ where I had my photo taken with one foot in South and one foot in North Korea. This in the blue building frequently shown on TV, same spot that President Trump recently visited.

Great trips!

Been 5-6 times for business in the last 10 years.

Seoul is one of my favorite cities.

S. Korea has really flourished in the last 2 decades.

Worked in South Korea for ten years as a wargame software geek. Mostly worked 12 hour shifts plus pass down during military exercises. Fortunately, discovered a local food place in my third world hotel vicinity. Wonderful people and excellent food! They called me an "American Mongul" because I loved their food more than the locals! There was a wide divergence between the older residents that saw us as protectors and the younger minority that saw us as the usual latest version of the American vermin. A country that is so populous that even a SoCal person feels fortunate to be in the home of the free with room to roam.

I recently came across a black and white photo taken of me fifty years ago, just about this time of the year. I was a 22 year old first lieutenant, standing by the table where the armistice talks happened.

In the back ground, right over my shoulder, was a North Korean officer taking pictures of us!

My air force son spent 3 years in South Korea. His wife learned hot to make AMAZING dishes. They both loved it there.

He just moved to Germany 2 wks ago, new adventure!
