Eco Diesel in Mexico and Central America

Something I read this morning in Gladiator Forum:

As far as mileage I to have seen numerous posts of users getting calculated economy from the diesel int he low to mid 30s modified vehicles. The most reports where from the gme tune using the ram 1500 eco diesel. With no felt lag, better mileage, more power and a good amount of torque. This is definitely the way that we have been leaning for our whole project since it’s inception.

Our main concern as per green Diesel engineering and others. Low sulfur fuel availability can be difficult when you get south of Mexico. Some estimate difficult in Mexico. But users report otherwise, as well as reports from Distibutors for last for diesel in Mexico. Either way it’s bad for the emissions. There are options with tune but even bode said tune would be at least 12months out after the release. Which, would negate the actual savings and tru fans from a tune out an extra year from release and if you plan on going south of the border. You’ll need good fuel storage for sure. At most you may end up needing to repair or replace some parts in the exhaust after an extended trip. This is something myself I am still learning. I don’t have a lot of experience with newer LSD engines.[i/]

Since we know that fuel cannot be imported into Mexico, the liabilities outweigh the benefits of an Eco Diesel Ram or Jeep Gladiator if traveling into Mexico from the U.S. or Canada.

Ken,
that was very poorly written, very painful to read. i think the gist of the message you wanted to share is that ULS diesel is not available in mexico and central america and your USA-compliant emissions control system in late model diesels may be damaged running higher sulfur fuel, eh?

Answer: Here’s the annual, start of season, update for diesel fuel in Mexico. As the go-to person on this topic for more than a decade, I can confirm that all retail gas stations everywhere in Mexico have been pumping ULSD for more than a year, since April of 2018. Bottom line, the days of sulfur-in-fuel issues for modern diesel owners in Mexico are over. I haven’t received a single report of sulfur-in-fuel problems in Mexico since late Spring of 2018. It is now common to see Chevron, Esso, Repsol, and other gas stations, as well as Pemex. The market is open to competition, and some of the stations are actively advertising that they have ULSD. One thing late model diesel owners do need to bring to Mexico is plenty of Diesel Exhaust Fluid, as DEF is hard to come by and fairly expensive in Mexico.

Fortunately, I work full-time, but I also take care of an elderly parent, so I don't have the hours in the day to review and peruse the forums, David. What normal time I don't have is taken up by my radio program. Please provide input and I will gladly accept it.:light:

While I select 'Todays Posts' link, I do not have time to read every post. That takes a lot of time. Tonight,I have to work on my radio program - it takes as much time as my Masters program.
