I got a pneumonia shot last year in Anchorage. I believe it is for a bacterial infection, and if that is correct, I don't think it will prevent "pneumonia like" symptoms from a virus.

Getting across our border to US is easy .. LOL .. not an issue ... Just sayin... We are headed down there on the 25th ... gonna fish 3-4 days in CSL .... I spoke to my Capt Juanito and does not understand what all the pedo is up here .. he says nothing going on any different down there except for less tourist ... and my buddy at the Squid says " Crazy as always"and he was asking me why all the issues with going to Mexico ... so we are all in and hopefully it all works out as long as they dont shut us out of coming back to USA ... or .. I will just have to quarantine in CABO ... keep your fingers crossed ...

US today has gone from 8th to 6th in the world in number of cases, 2980 new cases today, so far.

This is from yesterday's Gringo Gazette. While it acknowledges that the virus is being treated seriously from La Paz north, there seems to be an invisible line between La Paz and Todos Santos. To the south of the line, it's "eat drink and be merry, for tomorrow we die."

Let's hear some Baja ingenuity about the homemade ventilators all of us will need to survive ???

avg. lung capacity 1.6 gallons of air
breath rate @ 20 per minute.

Ventilator tubes are being 3D printed in Italy by companies and being given to the public. The rest is up to your ingenuity to save your family or yourself.

CPAP machines are being modified too.

Hoping my big bottle of Amoxicillin, my homemade ventilator & Type A+ blood are good enough.

I think Mexico will drive off the cliff rather than fess up and take precautions. They are terrified of loosing tourism, a critical component of the economy.

RFClark - 3-20-2020 at 01:28 PM

Mexico uses Chloroquine to treat Malaria and several other diseases currently. There are several lab studies and clinical trials that indicate that Chloroquine will both prevent and shorten the course of the Wuhan Virus! Speak with a local Doctor or Pharmacist to get their opinion! What do you have to loose? It’s cheap insurance!

RFClark - 3-20-2020 at 01:32 PM

More important than a ventilator is an Oxygen Concentrator! Available online!

News Flash!

As we speak! Tonight at Midnight all Non-essential border crossings to and from Mexico are banned!

omg!!. you just repeated the most unbelievably reckless nonsense the prez has said to date. There is NO knowledge of what the potential side effects of this drug, in combination with this virus are.
Potentially incredibly dangerous, and NEVER recommended without trials. And for Trump to stand up there and say he hopes / or has a hunch. h.o.l.y. phuk.

The serious cases of coronavirus eventually lead to pneumonia so I think it's a good idea to have that shot. When I had Valley Fever they gave me shots for pneumonia even though it was a fungus. Unfortunately the situation had gotten past the lungs and into organs. I wouldn't have survived without anti fungal meds though. This whole coronavirus thing sounds so familiar. Would not want to go through this again. It took years to fully recover and many have recurrences throughout their lives. Stay safe and healthy.

paranewbi - 3-21-2020 at 05:50 AM

On Monday, March 16, 2020, President Donald Trump took to the podium in the White House pressroom and began to make the case to the American people that the underlying operations of the country must change to stop the growth of the Wuhan coronavirus, also known as COVID-19, in the United States.

The President wants Americans to end discretionary travel; shelter in place for 15 days; limit gatherings to no more than 10 people; avoid eating at restaurants and bars; and avoid gyms and other recreational spots if the virus is spreading in that community.

For several weeks, Democrats and the media blasted the President. At the end of January, the President imposed a travel ban on China. The very media now blasting the President for not taking the matter seriously began to attack the President. According to experts at the time, the President’s ban on travel with China would make fighting the virus more difficult. In hindsight, the experts now agree it was the right decision.

The media continues to attack the President and his administration for daring to use the phrases “Chinese virus” and “Wuhan virus” to describe COVID-19, because they are supposedly racist. The Zika and West Nile viruses come from regions in Africa. No one claimed those were racist. But the communist Chinese are screaming and in full denial that the virus originated in Wuhan. The American media and progressive activists are helpfully defending the communist Chinese, just as they did when the National Basketball Association refused to take a stand for human rights in Hong Kong.

To really get the proper context for what is going on, however, we need to step back. On Jan. 19, 2020, a 35-year-old man with a four-day-old cough went to an urgent care clinic in Snohomish County, Washington. He had traveled back from Wuhan, China and was the first diagnosed COVID-19 patient in the United States.
Chinese health authorities who now insist the Wuhan virus did not come from China were actually quite helpful on Dec. 31, 2019, when they reported a pneumonia outbreak at the Huanan Seafood Wholesale Market in Wuhan. On Jan. 7, 2020, the Chinese confirmed there was person-to-person spread of a novel coronavirus in Wuhan.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the Democrats were impeaching the President. Though the President had just allowed the American military to take out Qassem Soleimani, the major general overseeing Iran’s terrorist operations, and then witnessed media screams that he had triggered World War III, Democrats and their press allies plowed ahead foolishly with impeachment.

It became an existential threat to and distraction for the President. All the President’s attention turned to impeachment. The press turned to silliness with aggressively hostile and partisan coverage of the President. The republic had arrived at partisan warfare with the press taking the Democrats’ side. In fairness, however, the press had been on the Democrats’ side since the election.

Into this, the press and Democrats began screaming about a man in Washington state who had come back from China. But, when the President took direct action in the middle of his impeachment trial to stop travel with China, the press and Democrats attacked him for that, too.

There are reasons to be critical of some of the President’s statements and tweets regarding the virus. In seeking to avoid a panic and in seeking to calm people, he did, arguably, go too far to dismiss concerns. But a fair-minded person does need to read the President’s actions through the process of a distracting impeachment with a partisan press and Democrats coming up with every imaginable excuse to savage him.

The American press, humorously, spent that entire period referring to COVID-19 as the “Wuhan virus” or “Wuhan coronavirus.” While calling it that, they attacked the President for doing too much to stop the virus. Now they call the President a racist for using their own words and attack him for doing too little.

One can hardly blame the President for treating the worry over the spread of the Wuhan virus as a partisan tool of the Democrats. The press and Democrats treated it that way, too.

Dear “Budding Epidemiologist”,

Here’s the link to the studies on Chloroquine!

https://www.connexionfrance.com/French-news/French-researche...

Sorry to burst your “The Wuhan Virus will rid us of the Orange Monster bubble”!

Additionally there are a number of other anti-virals that are being tested and showing good results. The thing about Chloroquine is it has a 70 year history, is cheap, is plentiful and works! Also you can buy it in Mexico!

I hate to get political here but it occurred to me that if the Orange Monster gives away all the freebies before the election to help the country, what will Biden run on raising everyone’s taxes to get it back? Just wondering!

RFClark - 3-21-2020 at 01:50 PM

Dear Budding E,

What’s gone over your head is the fact that there is no safety downside to taking Chloroquine as a prophylaxis as it tests both as a preventative and a cure! It has fewer side effects than a serious case of the flu or the Wuhan Virus. Especially if you live in Mexico where they have poor healthcare unless you pay for it!

I read the first lab test results weeks before this became a hot news topic! Feel free to not believe or do anything you think the Orange Monster says! It’s your life!

If you base that life on the things Brennan and Clapper say, you’re going to be disappointed or perhaps dead!

Jesus cured the Lepers not Newsom or Cuomo stacking Homeless Drug Users around all the public buildings like Cordwood is a recipe for a disaster of Biblical Proportions ( Plague, Typhoid, Hepatitis, Wuhan Virus) Nature is not kind to Fools and Murphy is God’s Appointed Enforcer! Don’t know who Murphy is google him!

RFClark - 3-21-2020 at 02:56 PM

Dear Budding E,

Believing in God is optional! Believing in Murphy is not! All things which can go wrong will go wrong, no matter how pure your intentions! That’s Murphy’s place in the universe! If you were in any sort of Engineering, you’d already know that!

I really hope you're not referencing 'Murphy's Law' which would be a very weak attempt to deflect. (?)

I was thinking Murphy was some biblical character maybe?

Believing in God is seeing the glass half full. Believing in Murphy is seeing it half empty.

bajabuddha - 3-21-2020 at 04:49 PM

Murphy's Triumvirate Axiom:

Everything takes longer than it should.

Nothing is as easy as it looks.

If anything can go wrong, it will: and at THE WORST POSSIBLE MOMENT.

Also of note for the scripture folks out there, god's name is "Andy Murphy".

Murphy because of Murphy's Axiom (see above)..... but also his first name "Andy" is from your church hymnal:

"Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me....."

RFClark - 3-21-2020 at 04:58 PM

Only the Disasters resulting from ignoring Murphy’s Law are Biblical!

The Tacoma Narrows Bridge! Letting a bunch of Drunk Russians play with a nuclear reactor! Designing an aircraft flown by a “Committee” Having 60K Homeless Drug Users camping on your sidewalks!

What you believe or refuse to believe has no effect on the bad outcome!

RFClark - 3-21-2020 at 05:27 PM

“Rosy Scenario” has killed as many people as all of the wars in history! In fact “Rosy” caused most of them! Rosy is Murphy’s sister but married into the Scenario Clan (Italian) right before the Romans sent three legions into the Teutoburg Forest guided by a German National! (How ever did that turn out?) She also helped write the Von Schlieffen Plan and signed off on not requiring a 100 foot high dike around a bunch of Japanese nuclear plants! ( how did that work out?) Recently she has been involved in a number of socialist Human Rights Causes!

RFClark - 3-21-2020 at 05:42 PM

The DNC is going to run Biden no matter what, that said you can try and warn them. It won’t change a thing!

Rosy says Biden will remember where he is, what he’s running for and who he’s married to just fine. If not Stacey Abrams will be there to back him up as the VP candidate! (What could possibly go wrong here?)

The US slide into the the 3rd spot yesterday according to www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/ and in the last 15 hours have clocked 13,931 new cases. We ain't gonna be out done by a bunch of damn commi's, we will have the bigliest numbers in the history of the world bar none!!

I found this Map for Mexico and it seems it's being kept pretty up to date and shows where cases have been found apparently.

There are several interesting facts on the website you posted! The death rate is running about 1% in the US and about 10% in Italy! A large portion of the new cases and deaths in the U.S. are confined to NY, NJ and WA! The other interesting fact is the daily number of deaths have decreased each of the last two days! It’s too soon to draw a conclusion but if it continues it’s a good thing! Time will tell!

capitolkat - 3-22-2020 at 11:43 AM

Just to interrupt- When in Vietnam I took chloroquin every day. While I didn't have bad reactions a few hours after taking it I could count on having an upset stomach. But, I figured that was better than malaria. When I was wounded i spent a week in the hospital there stabilizing and then was sent to Japan where I spent another week in the hospital before returning to the states. In Japan I was in a huge ward with other injured officers. it was amusing as the guy on one side had been hurt in a jeep accident, across from me was a guy who had broken his leg jumping from a helicopter into tall grass that was a lot taller than he expected. And next to me was a guy who was allergic to choloroquin and his liver had reacted badly causing is bile to turn black and he was bright orange from liver complications. i don't know what happened to him but it's clear the drug can be dangerous to some. I make no assumptions about it's efficacy but without monitoring I wouldn't take it now. i would listen to the health experts not someone with no medical training.

RFClark - 3-22-2020 at 12:21 PM

The current recommendation for areas where the type of malaria is not resistant to Chloroquine is one (1) 300mg equivalent taken on the same day each week! If you were told to “take it every day” That could be the reason that some people reacted badly to it! An upset stomach is a common side effect if you don’t take it after eating.

I dealt with and worked in both Military and VA medical facilities back in the early ‘70s there were some very good people working there, but I wasn’t impressed by the management running either system!

RFClark - 3-22-2020 at 12:54 PM

Sorry to disillusion you! Clinical Medicine is still very much an art not a science! It is still taught by practicing on the patients under the guidance of those with more experience! That’s called a “Preceptorship”!

If it was a “science” everyone would be cured! Please note that is far from the case!

What are you talking about? The number of deaths per day in the US isnt decreasing. It's increasing.

And that 1% is insignificant, with where the US is, chronologically, in terms of infection. We are at the beginning of the infection. We weren't testing. We were late on restricting movement.

Now that thousands per day are being diagnosed with it (4500 yesterday, almost 15,000 today!)and since it can take people weeks to completely recover, the death rate % is forced artificially downward.

What to look at is the percentage of "closed cases". Closed cases are people who either recovered from it.......or died from it. 70% of the closed cases are deaths.

https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/

These are the things that are scary.

-That 70%.

-Continued inadequate testing, NO ONE KNOWS HOW MANY ARE INFECTED

-Inadequate supply of respirators, oxy tents, hospital beds

I heard an interview with a higher up in FEMA today. HE ABSOLUTELY REFUSED TO SAY HOW MANY TEST KITS THERE ARE, HOW MANY RESPIRATORS THERE ARE, HOW MANY HOSPITAL BEDS THERE ARE. Flatly refused to say. All he did was spout lines about how we all need to pull together. Jeez, tell us something we don't already know.

FEMA is ALL ABOUT STATISTICS, NORMALLY!! But not now, when the inadequacies are just too terrible to reveal.

What is significant is the percentage of

capitolkat - 3-22-2020 at 03:45 PM

Well my tour in Vietnam was 50 years ago and like most soldiers we took the medication that was prescribed in the doses prescribed. I had no idea of the dosage, but because we were in an area with several strains of malaria we were prescribed both chloroquine and primaquine. I remember the chloroquine particularly as that was the one that caused me nausea. The dosage was daily. Some unit leaders had the medics oversee the taking of the meds, but I thought if they were old enough to go to war, carry weapons, and take lots of risks we all took, they could decide themselves about the meds. Some had worse reactions to the drugs than I did. And looking at the side effects I wonder if those guys who always thought somebody was watching them wasn't caused by the meds.

RFClark - 3-22-2020 at 04:07 PM

If you are paranoid there are only two possibilities! One of them is that you are right! Meds do induce paranoia, but then so does incoming! You probably had an excess of both! A lot of people think if some is good some more is better! Bad choice for Meds!

Personally, I grew up with a couple of WW2 1st Marine Scout and Recon guys! All of you leave me in a awe!

Hook,

I've looked at the link and the numbers don't make sense to me.

98% of the Active cases are mild.
70% of the Closed cases are deaths.

That means that most of the mild cases result in death? That makes no sense. What am I missing here in these stats?

Skipjack Joe - 3-23-2020 at 02:25 PM

New York State is leading the pack. You have to believe that most of this is mostly due to New York City, a microbe's dream for infections. So much for Woody Allen's elegies for this grand pulsating metropolis.

You have to wonder if this pandemic will change how people choose to live. It could change our value system.

RFClark - 3-23-2020 at 02:48 PM

The fact that NYC will admit to around 70K Homeless living there in the streets and subways probably has something to do with the number of cases. As do subways generally!

Historically cities suffer from plagues! Emptying chamber pots out the window into the street as one reason! Public Sanitation changed that for a time. However allowing people to live on the streets while using them as a chamber pot brought that back!

It’s worth noting that Seattle, NYC and LA all have huge populations of Drug Users living on the sidewalks! They also account for a big chunk of the cases and deaths!

Most Baja People have made a choice! I have!

HI All
The COVID-19 is in Cabo we have 15 local cases , that we know about.
The local gov. is madly trying to cover it up, ( tourist Dollars ) . Big surprise.
Please stay HOME !!!!!!!
Mexico's heath care system is BROKE!!!!!!!!!
Please, please please !!!!!!! do not make it worse !!!!!

The map I'm looking at for Mexico doesn't agree so it does speak to the coverup by the government.

It does claim 11 cases in Baja Norte, 6 in TJ and 5 in Mexicali.

tests kits are probably in very short supply, and lab with proper protocols probably has limited capacity to run test -- i wonder of they even have any test kits or a lab in baja?
the story makes sense, if you only got a dozen test kits, you need to follow a logic chart to ration the the few available tests...

Have to agree with that.

No, the President didn’t say that people should take drain cleaner, fish tank cleaner or even self medicate! But if you Loath the President enough it along with everything else you think is bad was caused by him!

The story was run by the usual suspects NBC, CNN and Bloomberg! No bias there! They also mentioned the 3 Nigerians who overdosed by self medicating on Malaria medication which can be purchased without a prescription in most of the world.

Not mentioned at all was the fact that during the same briefings a number of the briefers touted the use of Acetaminophen (Tylenol) for fever control! Those interested should read the horror stories about taking just a few times the recommended dose of that over the counter drug! 150 - 500 Americans die each year from a Tylenol O.D. and in excess of 50K visit an E.R.!

But The “Orange Monster” didn’t mention Tylenol did he?

Below is a link to treatment of prescribed Chloroquine O.D.s almost 200 cases and no deaths! But, in 1996 WJC was President!

agree! truth tellers they are! the free press that is the antidote for trump administration's fox state news!

Feel free to take all the Tylenol you want! But more than 4000MG/day is very bad for your liver and for some even that amount is deadly! I’ve seen those O.D.s I won’t be taking any!

Only time will tell how deadly believing the “Resist News Media” will be!

“The Truth!” is often a “movable feast”! Whether the same glass is half full or half empty depends on who is viewing it! Hating your fellow Americans because they disagree with you is also a bad idea!

I don't "hate" anybody or anything .... Intensely dislike , yes.. But not hate..

Well , just one cotton pickin' minute, I do hate constipation and diarrhea ...

The doctors and researchers at the CDC were blown away by how knowledgeable Impotus is.
I'll be taking every health tip he offers like the words from the buybull.

Well, strumpet, the orange miracle worker, appears to represent cognitive constipation and verbal diarrhea....

You can't hate both. They're opposites.
