I wonder about Coco during this pandemic!

AKgringo - 4-4-2020 at 02:02 PM

I stopped there on my way north a month ago, and the traffic by his camp is almost none since the highway was paved. Considering his age, and numerous medical problems, it is doubtful that he would survive an encounter with Covid19.

While it is good that there are far fewer people coming by that could infect him, he has depended on the traffic to support himself.

He has signs out offering free camping, and if I was traveling north right now, I would consider it. At least I would stop in and check up on him, and possibly leave some supplies or see if he needs to put out a call for help to someone that lives down there.

"Be responsible!"

I agree! I am not on the road, and have no plans to travel in the foreseeable future, but if I was making a run for the border right now I would stop by his camp.

I would treat the stop as if either of us could be a carrier. I don't want to get sick, or pass the disease on to someone else, but if there is a chance that some one needs to call for help. I could not just drive by!

I hope he is OK and stays that way. Yes everyone needs to be responsible in our interactions with everyone. Keep your distance and wear a mask or bandana.

All the best to Coco, just play it like you were both infected
He has been practicing social distancing in his own way for years
In times like these we don’t want to F that up
Lionel

Haven’t stopped in his place since last summer. Hope the old guy is doing well.

Coco’s Masks for Sale

LancairDriver - 4-7-2020 at 10:16 PM

Coco should have a good supply of “masks” he could sell and supplement beer income as they are in demand now during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Saw him yesterday. We were the first to stop in the last ten days. Very little traffic on the highway, none going by Coco's. Otherwise he was in good health and happy to see us.

Thanks for stopping by and checking up on him! I suspected that there might be a severe drop off in visitors, but ten days is more severe than I would have expected.

Coco is 83, has lost both legs to diabetes, and has been treated for a variety of other medical conditions over the years. As long as he has adequate supplies, his isolation from the virus may be the only thing that keeps him alive!

When I saw him the first of March, he said he was done with doctors. I don't think he was sayin he was healed, just that he was done with trips to a hospital!

Does family stop by? How is he going to eat if no one is stopping by?

None that I know of. He had a package of hot dogs and a few other things in his beer cooler. Not much else or even a lot of beer. He occasionally drives up to San Felipe since we've seen him in town once or twice over the years.

His truck looked like it could use a little work but we didn't discuss it. We just reminisced a bit (I used to lead MC tours) and voluntarily overpaid for a few beers.
