Has anybody ever gotten a Mexican boat permit aka TIP at the Mexican consulate in LA? I’ve gotten it across the boarder in Otay and it was pretty
easy. I remember it costing about $50 USD but on this web page it says you have to pay several hundred dollars in taxes and deposits on top of the
fee. Anyone have any info?
Anyone know if the Mexicali East border entrance is open and if so can does it have a Banjército bank to get the temporary boat importation permit
aka TIP there? How’s the parking if trailering a boat?
How about Tecate? I’m just trying to decide if there is any benefit to making an appointment at the consulate in
Los Ángeles before my trip as I live in Long Beach. I was reading that you need some kind of FMM preauthorization and I’m assuming you can’t get
the FMM at Mexican consulates in the US.

its been a while, but i remember a deposit of several hundred dollars required for TIP on motorbikes getting on the ferry to the mainland from la paz.

Go to banjercito.com.mx and apply online pay with your credit card and they will send everything you need to your mailing address

ok great. I want to cross at Mexicali siince I will be taking Mex. 5 down.
Anyone know if the Banjército bank and aduanas and migración are all open at Mexicali East? I would do the TIP online or maybe the LA consulate,
but it seemed a little complicated because apparently you need some kind of "pre-authorization" for the FMM aka tourist card first.
Anybody know about this?

I need to renew my TIP (it expired in May) and I tried to do so at the Otay Mesa Banjercito office which handles TIPs. They said that I must have the
boat with me in order to do so (the boat is in Mulege). I read on www.discoverbaja.com link above that Ensenada is the only place in Baja where they do not require the boat to be physically present "if your boat
is already in Baja". Has anyone gone through this process in Ensenada? Driving the boat from Mulege to Pichilingue will be a major hassle and if I
can just drive to Ensenada and process the TIP renewal without having to bring the boat that will be much easier.

Check around, we renewed our TIP in La Paz through "paper pushers" whose office was in the Marina. They took our boat papers, renewed without
incident, boat stayed in the water. Check around in Mulege for someone to handle it.

I found someone in Ensenada who will do the paperwork and not require the boat physically present. Just in case anyone else is in this situation, her
name is Michelle Aguillar (info@bcconnection.com.mx) and her website is www.bcconnection.com.mx. Everything is done through email. My problem (I have learned) is that my permit expired and therefore can't be renewed;
it needs to be canceled and a new permit issued. I initially doubted this conclusion but it has been confirmed by the Banjercito offices in Otay Mesa
and Ensenada, as well as by Michelle. The Banjercito offices each said that I needed to either have the boat physically with me or proof that it left
the country (ZARPE form). Michelle can complete the process without either; I don't know how that works but I'm done trying to figure it out. FYI,
this is not cheap: $385 to cancel the old TIP and $260 to issue the new one. At least there's a solution and my fault for letting the TIP expire.
The lesson here is to NOT let your TIP expire if you want to renew it!

Quick update: process complete. I received the cancellation of my old TIP and the new TIP via email. Apparently now there are no more stickers.
Highly recommend Michelle's services for anyone who finds themselves with an expired TIP and doesn't want to deal with exporting & importing the
boat to get a new TIP.

I read on another thread that the stickers were fading & people were told to not actually put them on a boat. That could be why they stopped
issuing them.
