Luxembourg for an afternoon

BajaBlanca - 8-4-2021 at 01:10 AM

We took a quick trip to Luxembourg once we got our car registered! My air force son gave me a used car ... the registration of said vehicle in Germany almost sent us all to the moon with frustration but that is another story for another day!

Luxembourg is luxury. Turns out it is one of the richest (THE richest?) nations in the world. I wish I had done some research before I went there LOL People really are amazingly well dressed downtown. I felt scruffy but what a happy scruffy I was!!

Here I am in the main square called Place d'Armes. There is a lot of construction going on, which takes away from the beauty. One of the bigger buildings said HOTEL DE VILLE on the front so we went in to get a city map. They did have one but they are not a hotel any more, now they are the gvt. buildings.

Les suggested a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral and this fountain is to the side.

From afar

One of the stained glass windows.

Some really beautiful buildings.

The trash can says PLEASE FEED ME ... how cute is that?!

Many statues, for sure this one was my favorite!

Very interesting!

I am interested in small countries. The smallest in Europe include Vatican City, Monaco, San Marino, Liechtenstein, Andorra, and Luxembourg.

I was in Luxembourg one day (it's pretty small) on tour. Our guide said you won't see anyone as we drove through the town/city on our way to the American Military Cemetery (where General Patton is buried with the American forces who helped liberate Europe).
Funny part, our guide was right... most people were not outside in Luxembourg, as in the case with other European cities we toured.
This was in 1985.

I saw the sign for the American Cemetery as we drove into town! I did not realize General Patton was buried there.

There were tons of people downtown and lines in front of fancy dancy stores, people waiting to go spend some big bucks.

I think city centers now cater to families and tourists by making walk only streets that prohibit cars. Brilliant, as they say in England.

A couple more pics....very modern and beautifully designed public transportation.

LET'S MAKE IT HAPPEN is the slogan.

Thank you for more photos! Yes, Patton's grave with the troops is pretty spectacular.

Blanca,

Did you guys need to get any visas to do all this traveling?

We drove and there were no checkpoints but we do have a German app proving we have been vaccinated against covid - it is valid for the European Union.
