Car License Question

JimH - 9-17-2021 at 10:06 PM

OK...so we live in Arizona, which requires only one license plate (rear, of course), and we're planning a road trip down to Cabo San Lucas soon. Will us having just the one license plate create any legal problems for us with Baja Norte and Sur state and local police? Also...we have a personalized plate...

on rare occasions you'll get pulled over for the missing front.
When you point out that you need only one - they'll let you go
works on all plates, since the police does not have the required knowledge

I had a nice conversation in Spanish with a cop about my
AZ plate.
It went something like this:

"You have only one plate."
"Yes, I only have one plate."
"You must have one in front."
"But I have only one plate."
"That is an infraction."
"The state of Arizona is very cheap. They
only give me one plate."

That was one incident, resolved with discussion,
in 21 years with an AZ vehicle in Mexico.

Sometimes having no front license plate might be an advantage. In CD Constitucion i.e. the Police is looking for Gringo license plates - from far ahead of course. As there are plenty of Mexicans driving with no license plate at all, police can not determine if or not a Gringo is approching. If you pass the police, its too late for them to pull you over.

vandy, saying that the state of Arizona is very cheap is downright funny!
